Description: Fijian Holidays? Not vacation - just hard work flying with marketing crew for photos and video of SuRi.

Right.

Before working though, there was the waiting for SuRi to clear Customs. It was a bit frustrating watching it parked offshore. Sipping pina coladas on the patio helped ease the pain.

After clearing Customs and cruising to the Mamanusca Islands it was all work. Funny thing was that all of the marketing team wanted an island tour "to show clients where you can go". And I thought this was about taking pictures of SuRi?

You can go most anywhere you want in the islands by SeaRey (including this one, Tavua Island) AFTER getting authorizations from the CAAF (Civil Aviation Authority - Fiji). This was made more difficult the week before we arrived by some yahoo in a yacht's helicopter buzzing the Presidential Palace in Suva, one of the few prohibited areas.

Long islands, round islands, sand islands, you can find most any kind if you like to look. Yanuya.

Because of the tight schedules, there would be no native ground tours. It was fly by only for the native village at Yanuya Island.

Of course it was mandatory to circle Tom Hank's island ("Castaway" movie filmed at Monuriki).

For $450 to $1200 per day Fiji dollars (about 1/2 of U.S. dollars) you can stay where the support team for the Survivor series hang out (Mana Island).

Who picked wet season to shoot photography? (Rigging for rain at Qalito.)

The yacht had to scoot outta town when a cyclone started brewing. Vinaka Fiji. See you somewhere else, SuRi. (Next stop is Brisbane, Australia.)

There are no free flights, Dave, but the ride is well worth the ticket. Who knew retirement would be so busy!

    A bit late response but...
Carol and I are going to Fiji in a few days for a week of scuba diving. Your pictures of the area really got us both
enthusiastic. Thanks for sharing.

Turning all the big toys loose.....SuRi launched all its tenders for the photographers. The SeaRey and sailboat just tried to stay away from the big wake.

(So this photo just mysteriously turned up. I thought it was on the phone I dropped into the sea. As I was sliding down into the SeaRey I heard a "Kersplash" and figured I had just knocked the phone off my belt into the briny deep. I gave it no further thought. After I got back home I got a message from one of the crew. He had found the phone in his car. I can't imagine how it got from the bottom of the sea to his car...)
