Description: Twenty years ago my niece's free spirit inspired me to name N220WT after her. Yesterday her daughter, Bailey, took flight in her mother's namesake.

Can you see her exuberance! Reaching into the slipstream she exclaimed, "This is the best day ever!"

There have been many flying days I've exclaimed the same thing. This time someone else shared that feeling.

Bailey was excited about our flying from the start. That's what she told her mother she wanted do on her "special" day. I had just come off the tractor from a mowing chore. It took a while for her enthusiasm to infect me.

Do you think such a young lady would be reluctant to take control? Maybe some other young ladies, but not this one! She embraced the idea of going where ever she pleased!

In a couple hours of flying Bailey found alligators, turtles, red trucks, buffaloes, zebra, emu, Texas long horn, fires, castles, Oprah's mansion, giant spiders, wispy clouds, a gentle shower, and rainbows. Oh, my. The places this girl will go!

Dr. Seuss knew.

"Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.

You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.

And you may not find any
you'll want to go down.
In that case, of course,
you'll head straight out of town.

It's opener there
in the wide open air.

Out there things can happen
and frequently do
to people as brainy
and footsy as you.

And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

OH!
THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!

You'll be on your way up!
You'll be seeing great sights!
You'll join the high fliers
who soar to high heights.

You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.
You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest."

From Dr. Seuss' masterpiece, "Oh the Places You'll Go!"

What a THRILLING ride for both of you. Lucky girl has a great tour guide. Next flight she may see elephants and flying gators.

How priceless was that! I love taking kids for their first flight. They are (usually!) just so exuberant with the
experience. I had the 10-year old son of a friend in the right seat one time and it was obvious that he was quite
nervous, talking a mile-a-minute as we made our way to the runway. Then, I pushed the throttle. He became silent.
When we left the ground, he let out the biggest ‘WOWWW’ ever and he was hooked! He still talks about that ride.

My airplanes predate my daughters, they do not know of a life without airplanes. my oldest particularly adept. When she was 8 yrs old I had one of my flight inst. take her for a flight and create a logbook, felt that would be an interesting entry had she pursued. He shook his head when I sent him, was amazed when he landed. I had a farm in Mich which was a regular destination, approx. 225 NM By 10 or 11 years old I would give her the airplane at 1000 AGL and she would return it to me over the farm. Had great plans for her........then she discovered boys. Much as I like her husband, she should have pursued the aviation.

Awesome. But I'd feel the same way with a flight with you Dan! (And I'm just a tad older.)

“Never stop being a kid, Richard. Never stop feeling and seeing and being excited with great things like air and engines and sounds of sunlight within you. Wear your little mask if you must to protect you from the world but if you let that kid disappear you are grown up and you are dead.”
