Description: That is how much fresh Lake Oceechobee water was being released in
a 24 hour period into the Caloosahatchee river. This causes damage
to the ecosystem and makes the water around the outer islands look
like brown tea. I took this picture just south of the lake. Historically,
This natural sheet flow eliminated the need to flow water east and
west from the lake.

This is what the MAJORITY of the land looks like today starting south of the lake and continues into
the horizon.
Not hard to figure out the problem....

Makes that old expression, "Nature abhors a straight line,"all too clear.

The results of messing with Mother Nature . The river of grass used to clean the water as it flowed
south. Artificially dumping Lake O
east and west has caused the highly toxic (and smelly) blue green algae to take over the river and
local canals.

And how many billions of $$$ were wasted messing with Mother Nature? Our good ole Corpse of Engineers at work again.

#6933 looks a bit like the Chicago River on St. Patrick's Day--not the least bit natural.

I always think of John Anderson when I hear about Lake Okeechobee, Wayne.

Haunting song....

Thank you for sharing that song, Steve. I never heard it before. It sure hits home!
