This question qualifies as 'stupid' if there ever was one...where the heck is the throttle in a Searey? I can never find it in all cockpit/panel photos. I heard a reply to another posting about automatic altitude compensation eliminating the need for mixture control. Is this something that is unique to the 914 or does it apply to the 912S? One more: Where is carb heat? I know those folks up in Ontario are familiar with such a concept.

Lynx, the kit comes with the throttle between the seats. However I moved mine overhead (where it belongs), and I love it. My female passengers also now don't accuse me of being fresh when I'm working the throttle.

re: carb heat. It is not standard, but can be added using rotax parts, or aftermarket.

    Rick,
Could you post a picture of your throttle installation? Would like to compare it with my setup. Thanks.

(Ahem.) The SeaRey Technical Site is the place for technical discussions like this.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. It's true Frank, it is sometimes tough to find answers about the Searey from PA or dealers. There is suprisingly little interest in the Searey here in the Pacific NW (after all it's just a colder version of Florida, right?) and it is sometimes tough to find answers. I can't wait till the day when I get my precious kit # and can visit the tech site, but until then, sometimes you guys are all I've got!! Thanks for the info.

Lynx or Glen, feel free to call me if you want. I enjoy talking to prospective SeaRey buyers. I'm a first time builder and got my plane into the air in 02. 401 658-0600

Don, I gotta agree with Frank this time. The more I hear requests for info from prospective buyers, the more I believe our site designations are wrong. Having been in the shoes of these guys myself just over a year ago, I wanted another source OTHER than the factory or a dealer for info. That is effectively impossible to get until after you put your money down. I think we are doing prospective buyers a dis-service by not answering reasonable pre-purchase questions on this site. Actually, if PA doesn't like it, they can start thier own site...none can say the site they have now is supported...it hasn't changed in years. But even then, it wouldn't provide an independant source of info. That is our job here and it wouldn't take away from the value of STS.

Ken, I'd agree with you--except for one of the several history lessons we got from the two predecessors of these current sites. At least one insurance agent (mine!) was lurking on them, and that apparently didn't help some builders at policy renewal time. There were several employees of competing kit manufacturers, too. And there was at least one person who had a nasty grudge against PA and was looking for anything that might hurt them. That experience is why STS was set up for kit owners only and this site (which is essentially public) was limited to fun stuff.

On the other hand, I don't think anyone wants to keep prospective kit buyers ignorant--and after all, every member's email address is just one click away here.

Don, I agree with yours and Dan's caution.
I also think Frank's, Bret's and Ken's concerns are legitimate.
All members of Splash & Dash have an email address listed when they join the site. I think that experienced SeaRey owners (even dealers) should be encouraged to make their detailed responses via back channel email. It really is not much more effort than posting the comments in the 'bright lights'..
