How about some Kenny G jazz, as in 'Getting on Step.' You can read an article that touches on his seaplane flying at: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=980CE3DD1139F
93BA35752C0A961958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all Attachments:

Where did he find a Beaver on floats to rent around New York City?

Dan Nickens - Feb 22,2009 Viewers | Reply
Mr. G doesn't have to rent. He owns one sweet 1953 Dehavilland DHC-2 MK. I(L20A), N6653K.

Yeah, but that article says 'Recently, on a break from a promotional tour for his new album, Kenny G, 40, was taking the scenic route from Manhattan to lunch in Port Washington, L.I., flying above the Statue of Liberty, up the Hudson and out over the Long Island Sound in a rented Beaver.'

It was a NY Times report, Don. It doesn't need to be accurate, just interesting for advertisers. The reporter may not have been all wrong, though. The aircraft is actually owned by the Kenny G. Trust. Maybe the Mr. G has to rent it from the trust?

Maybe he was renting from Harrison Ford. Harry used to keep some of his planes at Teterboro (he may still).

http://www.harrisonfordweb.com/Article/Random_Hearts/perfect
ion_of.php

Dan, I hate to criticize others music (and I like most everything), but that was awful. And I thought I was a bad drummer. How'd you find this guy? Interesting facts about Kenny G, though you probably won't find him on Lima's Ipod.

Yeah, I must not be a fan of 'acid jazz' (whatever that is) but I found the song searching for the seaplane song mentioned in this month's edition of the Seaplane Pilots Association of Australia e-mail. I still haven't found the song the article mentioned, but I did find an Austrailian band called 'Seaplane.' They aren't going to make my playlist either. Did you know Buffett's song 'Jamaica Mistaka' was based on the Jamaca cops shooting at his seaplane? Geez, the things you can find on Google....

It is possible, Eric, that the “acid jazz” guy is a SeaRey pilot, so allowances have to made. I went back and looked at his lyrics:

Concrete humming tires rolling
Clear Blue Skies
Sea Plane Flyin' on a Runaway Slide
Clear Blue Skies.

Hungry humming ah oh
Cities Passing Burning burning
Road to the horizon
winding passing
Road to the horizon distant

Drivin on the Beach
by the oceanside
Makin a wave
Rockin the Sand
Clear Blue Skies.

One harmony
mined again
My melody
Wind under me
wine again
My melody.

Concrete humming tires rolling
Clear Blue Skies
Sea Plane Flyin' on a Runaway Slide

With “concrete humming tires” he obviously operates off of a paved runway. This is not dispositive evidence of a SeaRey, but it happens.

“Clear blue skies…”? Well, that is the SeaRey’s most favorable environment.

“Hungry humming..”? He has a smooth running fire breathing turbo charged Rotax 914. That is further supported by his “…burning, burning…” reference. And, of course, he is leaving the wasteland of cities behind in search of a deserted beach.

The “road to the horizon…” is just a metaphor for his winding path to a distant and indefinite destination.

“Drivin on the beach….” is clear evidence of the amphibious nature of his plane. “Making a wave…” proves that he is operating near the Gulf of Mexico and landed on a glassy calm day. “Rocking the sand…” shows that he managed to sand blast the picnickers at the beach in typical SeaRey fashion.

After blasting the beach the seaplaner found his groove in the sky with harmony and melody from the wind through an open cockpit. The wine? Well, maybe he is an incautious flyer.

The “Runaway slide” is a clear reference to his landing back on the concrete in a crosswind.

Other than the wine, I’d have to suspect one of the Gulf Coast SeaReyers as the artist. Anyway, it’s just another SeaRey day reduced to rhyme and rhythm……in an acid jazz format.

Clearly allowances are made for searey/seaplane pilots. Example: Kenny G

I like Jazz also. That's a little rough. I have always liked Tree Top Flyer by Stephen Stills. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o40_MzuKIGA
Success! My mates downunder took care of me and sent me the old song. Here is what Phil Dulhunty, Dean of Aussie Seaplaners said:

'Nancy Bird gave me the Seaplane song which was always sung during the Seaplane cruise all the Powder Puff derby girls (The Ninety-Nines) went on after the Powder Puff races. The lyrics were written by one of their members, Inis de Flores……………… . The cruise and the song got Nancy “hooked” on seaplanes and hence her love affair with our Catalina. Phil

P W Dulhunty OAM
Director
THE CATALINA FLYING MEMORIAL LTD
Building 2, 35-41 Waterloo Rd
North Ryde NSW 2113
www.catalinaflying.org.au

Ms. Bird recently soared to a higher plane after a long and successful life. Here are the lyrics to the song that inspired her to fly seaplanes:

'Do you know the wash of the driven spray,
The pound of the hull and engine's bray,
Have you lifted clear of cove and bay?
Have you flown with the gulls in the morning?

It's the song of the sea, the song of the sky,
The song of the ship as the tail rides high
It's the song in our hearts when the seaplanes fly
To the cry of the gulls in the morning.

Now glasses up and a rousing toast,
To the seaplane cruise and our gallant host,
And we'll drink all night on this friendly coast
'Ere we fly with the gulls in the morning.'

Inis de Flores

An attached copy is on the original Ninety-Nines letterhead.

And, if you don't know the tune of 'Do you know John Peel', it can be heard at: http://home.mweb.co.za/sa/salbu/JohnPeel.html

Attachments:

Dan, that is great! So to the same tune as JohnPeels:

Have you built your bird, have you flown her yet
Have you had the joy of getting splashing wet
Seeing friends you knew but have not met
Have you been to Garners landing

(song started strong but disappointed in the end)

Convincing the wife and raising the dough
A 914 will make it get up and go
Buying more stuff till she screams no mo!
Have you bought yourself a garmin

Dashing the waves and buzzing the beach
The class B space you will never breach
Always chasing the gulls until they screech
Have you circled honeymoon island

Now the final verse, oh the lord be praised
Make sure your voices all are raised
If I keep this up, my ars will get braised
Aren't you glad Leonards song is over

It's a bit hard to hum, Ken, but I like it!
