A Seawind was at Lake Agnes for the Sun-n-Fun seaplane event: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9JDkLVD7YA">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9JDkLVD7YA</a>

If you assume linear acceleration to 85 mph for lift off, then 48 seconds would cover nearly 3000 feet, and that was into about a 15 knot head wind.

I spoke with a nice lady at SNF last week who said she and one other person are the only folks she knows who have significant hours in the Seawind and he trained her. According to her: 'Most pilots are intimidated by the plane, even after they get type specific training'. After watching that takeoff, I can certainly imagine why.

This one seems to go OK but a little hard to fit into...<br /><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE-FTls_MxU&feature=related">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE-FTls_MxU&feature=related</a>

Just like the real thing. Lots of flashy high-speed fly-bys, very little water demonstration.

An interesting aircraft. One of our fellow Searey pilots owns one and flies it regularly.<br />It is not an aircraft for the new pilot, it is sluggish in the water, and very sensitive on the controls. However it is fairly fast...

The entire engine is supported from the vertical fin. I watched one start up a few years back and the vertical fin and the tail shake like a wet dog upon start up. I wonder how many hours before something important holding the engine breaks. It looks like a dangerous aircraft to me.

The pilot of that Seawind posted this on You Tube: <br /><br />'Hi, I'm the pilot. Great video! Nice to see what the Seawind looks like flying from the outside.<br />'Figured I'd 'eat crow' and explain the long take off... and not give the plane a bad rap for my error. In this instance we were heavy (4 grown men) but more importantly I only used 5 degrees of flaps (should have had 20). Typical takeoffs - with correct flaps and light - is 18 seconds.<br />'Love the plane; it's great in the air and on the water.'<br /><br />There are a couple of other comments, too.<br />

Don, I just watched it again and noticed the comments are missing. Did you remove them?

They're still there, Mark. They're below the video--including the one that says, in part, 'You r one&amp;#65279; ignorant butt-hole wannabe.'

Don - if you notice the identifier of the guy that wrote that, it appears to possibly be an owner of the Seawind company. Although I have no personal experience with them, I have read some pretty awful things written by folks claiming to have done business with the company owners. Frankly, the woman I spoke with at SNF is the first person I ever heard who had experience in the plane and liked it.
