I was inspired by Dan Nickens shot called 'Steep Coast' to post a coast shot of the opposite type.
This is a pic of the Kimberley coast up in the North West corner of Australia (see my recent post on the 'Flying Doctor' coast line.
The tidal range here is typically 30 to 40 feet. So in zones where the coast shelves gently the beach can be 1/2 a mile wide and
even at 1 mile out to sea the water is only a few inches deep.
Attachments:

Outstanding, Ross. Did you spot the stromatolites at Shark Bay?

John and Dan - I have not worked out how to add another picture so I will answer in another item.

It's a bit weird, Ross, but you have to post a reply and then edit it. You'll have the option of adding a file (picture) or web link.

Dan - Thanks now I see how to do it!
I will add a picture as homework.
This is another picture of the Hamelin Pool area. I think the pattern on the
pool floor must have been laid
down millions of years ago when Australia was joined to Africa by a land
bridge. I can only conclude that a
large herd of Zebras wandered over to Australia and died here. Attachments:

Ross this area is absolutely stunning from the air. In another life I owned a company that flew Japanese tourists to Monkey Mia to see the dolphins and flew into the Hamelin pool airstrip a few times. Dd you fly into Nanga Station while you were in the area?

    Paul
No I missed it. Where is Nanga Station? I must return to the west coast again. My recetn vist was fantastic,
but too fleeting.

Ross, just west of Hamelin Pool. We used to fly in there for tours of Shell Beach after leaving Monkey Mia. Famous fishing spot. Google link here but for some reason you have to copy and paste it... http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=&daddr=-
26.25564,113.807498&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=15&sll=-26.25043,113.812909&sspn=0.030214,0.066047&ie=UTF8&ll=-26.246466,113.816471&spn=0.030215,0.066047&t=h&z=15

The airstrip is a bit hard to see but is on that salt pan just east of the station.

Maybe next time.
