Hi!

Has anybody used a Jabiru 120 HP 3300 for the Searey? I assume a new mount would need
to be used, but other than that, it seems like it would work well. It looks like it would weigh
~15 lbs more than the 914. The 80 HP VW seems like it could power it also. Looks like this
would be ~10 lbs less than the 912. I know Sonex is working on a turbo version of their
Aerovee 2180 VW, which will be around 100 HP. Don't know the weight for this yet.

As far as costs go, the VW is $10,000 cheaper than the Rotax 912, and the Jabiru 3300 is
$13,000 cheaper than the 914.

Are there any other engines that have been successfully used on the Searey?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan - unfortunately, we don't do technical discussions on the splash-n-dash site. We limit them to the owners only site. (because a competitor used a discussion years ago to bad-mouth the plane) Which of course, doesn't help folks who are considering buying the plane. Many folks here are happy to talk with you back-channel about the plane and some of the engines that have been used and some engines that are currently being tested.
I have no financial connection with the company (other than sending them money for parts!) and would be happy to chat off-line. Intersting. Seems that's like using napalm to control the mosquitoes in my back yard. But
at any rate, I'd welcome feedback via email, thank you Ken. I believe my email address is
accessible by clicking on my username?

Dan

Bye the Bye.. speaking to technical vs. non-technical forums. Can a non owner/builder be
invited to read S&D?. If so i would like to know the procedure and propose a pilot who's
interested in 'the SeaRey Magic'.
Let me know via e-mail & I will supply his name & contact info.

Ken - I believe anyone with access to this site can invite anyone to this site. You can do it yourself. Go to 'utilities', 'add members'.

It's not the same with the technical site.

Or, on the home page, click on 'Add Members' just under the cover photo. Anyone member can do it.
