David, Crystal River airport is about 25 miles to the east and they have fuel. I had an Aventura 2 that had a smaller tank than my Searey and I always had to stop at Crystal River for fuel on my return flight back to Winter Havven. Cedar Key is a great place to visit, however you do need to be aware that the runway is only around 2300ft long (I think) and runs from water to water. It is no problem for the Searey as long as you don't land long.

Thanks for the info. I can fit a couple gas cans in the baggage area and bring an extra 7.5 gal with me and still be in wt&bal. That appears to be enough but it is always good to have options.

If Crystal River (CGC) has Mogas, they are hiding it well. It isn't listed on 100ll.com or airnav.com.

    they have 100ll.
not recommended for a Rotax but, better than salt water

David, I have been using 100ll for years on cross countries, never a
problem at all. Just cost way too
much. Also I think most of the mogas at airports have a lower octane
than what is recommended. What
do you know about mogas At airports Troy. If you have an airport with
mogas and 100 ll, which is best to
use ?

the bad thing with 100LL is that it has all that lead in it. you can use it but it's not
recommended. due to having to have more frequent oil changes and lead buildup on valve
components. I use Mogas when available. also, use semi-synthetic oil when using 100LL
and don't forget to wipe out the lead from your oil can with a rag.

as far as Octain, Rotax's concern is longevity of fuel quality. we were taught that you can
run regular 89 IF your gonna burn it all that same day. in S America they run 40% ethanol
in these engines.(just a little side note).

Great photo's Troy. How did you like Cedar Key. It is one of my favorite spots to go for the day. I stayed over night once, but you run out of things to do real quick if you stay too long. The runway is always fun to land on, You just don't want to land long. There has been many planes run off in the water from landing long or having poor brakes. I was partners in a Cherokee Arrow that had an approach speed of 90 mph, boy did that runway seem short when I flew the arrow there. It did have good brakes thankfully

I have many hours in an arrow. what a pig. airnav says it's 2600' we liked it alot. I had
plenty of fuel for round trip and landed just fine kinda long taxi then. but, i dicked around on
take off and used the whole thing. (almost). the food at Seabrease was very good.
Joe, you were not the one with the hang over were you?

When I fly into Cedar Key, I carry 2 empty 5 gallon containers...The nice lady that runs the taxi service was happy to stop at the gas station after I ate lunch at the restaurant. I only buy what I need so the containers are empty when stored in the back ...

C edar Key is a great getaway ...I stop there on my trips from Ft Myers to Tallahassee.
Glad to see you enjoyed the island that has the smallest K-12 student body of any public school in Florida!
