For those posting the great flying videos I'm wondering if anyone has mounted their camera on the upper square tube (holding the sliding canopies)to get a forward view over the nose but not thru the windshield? This would place the camera outside in the airstream but no worse (unless it falls off) than on the sponson bracketry. It would restore the HD reduced by shooting thru the windshield.Or, is this just a bad idea?<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

I have mounted my camera both above and blow the center square tube. It is not as stable as the <br />wing/strip mounting or the bulkhead behind the the pilot/passenger. The camera vibrates thus the video <br />vibrates, which cane supposedly fix in the video editing software (if you know how).

Frank,<br /> David Geers has a pretty nice set up on his that he can rotate from inside <br />and even doubles as a headset holder. Maybe he can post a pic of his set <br />up. Check his latest video to see.

Hi Frank, will posting photos here, and if you check out the video at 12 minutes 40 seconds in, there is a reasonable video demo. The bracket was very easy to make a small piece booker rod, some washers, a small piece of aluminium tube, and a flat aluminium bracket. I used the adhesive go pro mount bracket and used two small screws with Loctite to ensure it doesn't come off. I also tethered the camera on with some nylon coated fishing wire. It is by far the best mounting spot for getting some great paning shots. Just remember to do a good job of making the bracket, as if it falls off it will definitely go through the big fan at the back!!! Will not make good video!      Attachments:

Thanks so much David. Your videos are terrific and thanks for the construction tips. Great idea and implementation. "Booker Rod" hasn't seemed to make it into our new dictionaries, might you explain?<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Sorry Frank Booker Rod is just a long threaded rod can be cut to any desired length. I used approximately 6 inches and six Nylex nuts 2 aluminium sleeves over the Rod just for aesthetic's. <br />Note on photo3 the fishing cable tether, which I drilled a small hole through the base of the go pro housing. I would also recommend using a gopro3 camera and housing as they have improved the clip holding the camera case door closed.

Also something to note you may need to get an engineer to sign off the modification. As recently here in Australia we had a notification from CASA regarding mounting of cameras outside of the cockpit.

Anyone who has not seen David Geers 'Touch and go videos' should. Last night I watched the first and second installments. They are great! David, you must have spent many hours editing these. It felt like I was watching a commercial television documentary. Extremely well done.<br /><br />Also, a touching tribute to Ross Vinning.<br /><br />Thank you David.

Thanks Jeff, your comment are certainly appreciated, and you're right we have spent a lot of time editing. We certainly have learnt a lot from our first episode, In April May next year I am planning to fly anticlockwise around the coastline of Australia, and try and produce a reasonably professional documentary. It should be a lot of fun. Standby for more info.

David, like Jeff and others I totally enjoyed your videos. And now that we have a new HD TV I'm anxious to watch again. My YouTube searches failed to find them. I'll have to copy your link above. I've started accumulating parts to reproduce your forward root tube mount. Thanks again for all the tips!<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.     Hi Frank, now you've got your new HDTV please download HD file it is so much better than watching it on YouTube. I have the second edition uploaded to a cloud server, click on the link and click on download it is very easy, however it is a large file and will take approximately 35 minutes depends a on your Internet speed, but be patient it is worth it.<br />Please let me know how it goes?      Attachments:
