Ladies and gentlemen,

I have stayed out of the 'site' debate not because I am shy but because I wanted to appear wise, and knowing that I would put foot in mouth if I opened it, silence seemed like the only answer. As the debate is now largely over we need to regularise things or we'll all end up posting on three or four sites just to make sure everybody gets our message and there is nothing more boring than opening three sites and seeing the same stuff posted.

Frankly, the two original sites I joined were Glenn's (whether I remembered that or not,) and if he did not wish to relinquish them it remained his privelege to be as inequitabe as he wanted. Annoying, I know, but as Dan said , we could always take our ball and play in someone else's yard.

Meanwhile as a group we have been growing, and growing up. In all growing organisations there comes a time when the original inspired dictatorship must give way to the formality of properly organised management. Clearly, if timing is everything, this is an excellent moment for change. The service we used to enjoy from Yahoo is no longer available and we are not significant enough to affect that.

If we all make a mandatory contribution the new sites will cost us each almost nothing. ( I will not be treasurer, as the local Parent Association is finding out, that is definitely not my forte,) We must also have a policy for the high load of picture content, Technical pictures should be culled so the point is not lost, Fun, social and atmosphere pictures should be removed after, say, a year, keeping important ones perhaps in a special 'archives' file so that they can be replaced by the new and ever better pictures we are now producing. That way the site will be dynamic and forward looking.

Now we can sit around and bitch like old men or we can face front, make a plan and forward march.

My contributuion is this.

We should use John's locator file and the list of members of the old sites to make sure that everyone gets an invite to Splash and Dash and that all the members who have a Seareys get an invite to the new Tech site. Then we should set a date beyond which we will no longer post to the old sites and stick with it.

While we're at it we should make sure we thank Glenn for all his past work and that he has the appropriate invites too. Sooner or later we all have our bad hair days, I, for sure, hope my friends are big enough to overlook mine.

When pictures are removed from the site they could be burned onto a CD-ROM and made available to members for a small copying and postage fee. That has worked well on another group I am a member of.
