Hey all,

The 31st Annual International Seaplane Fly-In on Moosehead Lake, Greenville Maine, will be held Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 9-12, 2004.

Can we have a Searey gathering there this year?

I dunno if any Seareys made it last year; I did not go myself.

But I am planning on flying my Stingray there this year. A very 'crummy situation' occurred last year that prevented me from flying to it.

I've placed this fly-in on the SOS Lite site's calendar.

This is a natch event for Seareys! Whataya say, folks?

http://www.seaplanefly-in.org

Bret...that's great! But help me out a bit....when are you moving south?

Also......a bunch of us WWI nuts are having our annual Rhinebeck gathering the weekend before on Labor Day weekend! HOORRAY....finally it's not on the same weekend as Greenville! You gonna go Bret? I thought of flying my Stingray right to Rhinebeck but probably will chicken out and drive. Several of us are staying at the Interlake campgrounds nearby.

I'm not moving anytime soon. That is at least 2 years away.

Last year, I went to Rhinebeck twice. Once with Col Gracy for the Mid-Hudson WWI RC meet and 2 weeks later with the family for apple picking (and one day the Aerodrome - my wife and daughter Georgia participated in a vintage fashion show there and got to ride in their old model T's). On that trip, we took the trailer and stayed at Interlake campground. It was a good place but basically a ghost town at that time of year.

As to the chicken-out factor... well lets make a plan to mitigate that. If you fly to Rhinebeck that weekend, I'll be your wingman from Rhode Island on. So Mark, make me and Miss Streaker rise to the occasion! Attachments:

That Georgia girl is just a doll, Bret. I figure I'll have to go easy on you just to keep her happy.

Ohh Bret, what have you done. Now I'll have to think about this.

Thing is, I've reserved a campsite at Interlake for several of us in the gang, for 3 days (Interlake requires a minimum 3 day reservation over holiday weekends). No problem if I don't use all three, but if I fly there, I will have to bum rides with those guys, just logistics to think about.....

Have you flown your Searey there yourself? I know they discourage pilots from flying in to the actual field, but don't prohibit it. Guess they had some Cessnas and Pipers in the past that barely cleared the trees taking off....they want to know that you can handle a tight field like that.

I sure would feel more confident if someone joined me. My flying experience is pretty limited, especially with any cross country like that.

You say Rhode Island....where are you now, Bret?

Oh btw Bret, are you familiar with the problems that were going on there? Seems there was some kind of upheaval last year that nearly closed the place for good....heard anything?

No I heard nothing about a stir at Rhinebeck. I hope its all worked-out.

I'm in Cumberland, RI. I saw an RV-6 fly out of there and I've heard the same that they discourage you from coming in but I think a couple of SeaReys (I mean a SeaRey and a StingRey) would be a real crowd pleaser. I would call the folks at Rhinebeck up and talk this up and try to get us some space right on the flight-line.

So lets pick this discussion back up mid to late summer. See how our cross-country work is doing. I plan to get several good trips in this year and I'm hoping to bring up my cross-country confidence level as well. Its no fun being stressed-out all weekend worrying about the flight home. Its good to push yourself a litle though. So lets see...

Somehow I thought you were in Massachusetts....

I did plan on calling them first...when I talked to them several years ago, they said they wanted to know what kind of plane you had and could it handle the field.

And I don't want a DR1 on my six on final!
