Captain Tom Block wrote this book quite a few years ago, I remember reading it. He also had a monthly column that he wrote for in Flying magazine years ago.

Judy

AVIATION MOVIE written by CAPTAIN TOM BLOCK on Oct 2nd

I just received this message from Tom. You can reply to him at: TomFlyingB@msn.com
Bill Kingston

Bill,

I thought perhaps some of the folks out there would like to know that the aviation novel 'Mayday' that I wrote back in the late '70's (the final days of Allegheny), and with my childhood friend Nelson DeMille, has just been made into a TV movie. It will be the CBS Network movie of the week, and it will air initially on this coming Sunday, October 2nd, at 9:00pm on the East Coast.

I haven't seen any of what Hollywood has done with it, so I'm hoping that they at least have the airplane flying rightside-up!

Best wishes to all,
Tom Block

I enjoyed the movie last night. I thought it was well done as far as Movie of The Week's go.

Yes Bret, Bruce & I were having trouble eating our Haagan Daz ice cream during the scene when the plane was falling; after he turned off all the fuel switches!!! Of course, it would have been much better without all those commercials! I flew with Tom Block many years ago, when we were Allegheny Airlines, before we changed to USAIR. I would have to say that he must be retired by now, the biography said he was still flying, but they didn't give a year for the biography.

Joe Friend said he used to live at the Spruce Creek Fly-In Community, and then he moved to a Farmhouse close to Datona; probably better for writing more novels! Joe said he played tennis with Tom & his wife, against Joe and a female player at Spruce Creek, Joe won!
Judy

You can dispense with the commercials if you use TiVO, further, you can watch it before or after your ice cream.
