The St. Augustine, Florida airport installed a seaplane base and ramp last year. Every time I fly in the tower asks if I'd like to use the ramp. Every time so far I've said 'no' because of the salty water and took the asphalt. Last time the tower sounded pretty desperate: 'Spent $160,000 and we can't get no users.'<br /><br />'Sorry bout that.'<br /><br />But now there is a 'splash in' planned for February 9 and 10. Looks like I'll have to get my SeaRey a bit salty to support the seaplane base.<br /><br /><br />SGJ SEAPLANE FLY IN<br /><br />St. Augustine Airport<br /><br />“The Economic Gateway to St. Johns County”<br /><br />Saturday &amp; Sunday -- FEBRUARY 9 &amp; 10, 2008<br /><br />Come enjoy our New Seaplane Ramp and Floating Docks<br /><br />Meet up with old friends.     Have you gotten the required passport to enter the North Florida Territory, or do you plan to fly under the radar? Looks like fun. I'll be there.

Shoot, Rick, it is so easy to sneak around the North Florida Fine Air Defense Exlusive Club area that we spirited a SeaRey out of there last year with nary a worry. You might have to increase the SeaRey Security Surveys to keep the riff raff out. Inorder to foster better diplomatic relations, however, I'm willing to apply for a visa on the sunniest day of the splash-in weekend as long as you don't send TT to negotiate terms!

TT has been busy rebuilding a Russian side car for his Harley, and hasn't been doing a very good job argueing er... I mean negotiating, so not to worry as the Russian side car has become a major project. I'll be happy to send a blanket application for a block of passports. See if you can round up a mess of Searey's, and I'll try and corral Randy Wilder to fly escort. We might even share the location of TT cove, a local Searey tourist favorite.

Fair is fair. I plan to test the Catherders Scatter Defense System tomorrow as I penetrate your airspace tomorrow... twice... as I fly to Sarasota and back. Then again, I may skirt your airspace on the way back and just fly the coastline to Cedar Key on Saturday.

I'll catch them off guard by flying low and slow.... See ya there.

Wx looking good for Saturday. Randy Wilder has mounted rapid firing paint ball guns on each side of his SR, and I've cut waterballoon bombay doors into mine in anticipation of an invasion into the North Florida airspace. Robert Lee ...where are you???

Dan Nickens - Feb 04,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Ha! Robert has shipped out to Anartica! Based on preliminary musterings, you can expect a whole scale invasion of SeaReys for lunch on Saturday.

SGJ St. Augustine airport has several water runways. 35W/17W 12,000' X 1000', 36W/18W 12,000'X1000', and 30/12 5000'x1000'. Floating Docks and a good ramp for us Seareyers. Cookout from 10:00-14:00. An aerial tour of the St. Johns River is planned as well.

Current Forecast low 70's wind W to <br />WNW at 8.     I think that the Searey's ruled! The catherders flew in mass after the North Florida Rats had cleared the airspace. of all obstacles. Thanks for the body scrub Jon. Fun time.

So spill! Did he blast ya'll with sand?

Rick Oreair - Feb 12,2008   Viewers  | Reply
No sand, (although he owes me a sand blasting from several years ago at Garners'), Jon was a real gentleperson, and gave everyones Searey a bath, after landing at St. Augustine. Interesting trivia, 15 planes at the flyin, of which 7 were Searey's. Only 7 planes landed in the water and taxiied out. All were Seareys. Searey's Rule!
