Just wondering what refueling pit stops are available around Florida that carry the unleaded fuel. Anyone have any recommendations? The only place I know about is Winter Haven which carries unleaded mogas.

Randy, does Winter Haven have 92 octane? There are listings for some other states in the 'SeaRey Travel Guide' category.

As reported by 'Airnav', Winter Haven does have 'mogas'. I assume it would be the 93 octane. But nothing is listed in the Searey Travel Cat for Florida for food or gas.

If I'm home, folks can always stop in the Odessa area for gas. Look on Google Earth for Lake Church, Odessa, FL 33556. 8 miles NNW from TPA.

Bruno, just click on 'Select Category' near the top of this page and scroll down to 'SeaRey Travel Guide...' (the longest one).

Has Florida been invaded with ethanol as yet?

Jon Ladd - Jan 28,2008 Viewers | Reply
Yes, but it's limited to only a few distributors. Ethanol free at most stations so far.

Jon >> Is it about the same price? One airport here (KPYM) has ethanol
free mogas and they are getting $3.50 for it. All auto stations have 10%
ethanol.

I attended the Rotax seminar at Sebring during the LSA expo. Phil Lockwood is saying that 10% is not an issue and that, in fact, in Brazil or somewhere down there that the ethanol is as high as 25% and so far no problems. The jury is still out.

I think the price is the same within a few cents. Remember back when we would drive around for a few cents cheaper?

You're right Jon, I used to drive a around to buy gas at $0.19 per gallon--and ethanol free to boot. (But that
was 50 years ago.)

I live at Love's Landing, SE of lake Weir. I have fuel cans and will take you to station for gas. This is how I get my own. Papa Charlie

For what its worth, I have carried 3 empty gas cans with me on a long trip.
One 6 gal, one 5 galon and a 2.5 gallon - all empty, of course.
I used to use the nice 6 gallon jugs from Northern tools, but I have found the 5 gallon from Wal-Mart to be able to nicely fit in the cargo area. In fact, on my plane the 5 gal fits all the way back and because it is slightly wedge shaped, it almost falls off the back of my shelf, but then it wedges in, creating a back wall for my cargo shelf. I leave it there all the time so I can throw stuff there and not have it fall off the back. Plus I always have my own tank in a jam. Airports often have a courtesy car - its harder to find a CLEAN gas can. I have had people offer me gas cans to use that I would be reluctant to relieve myself into.
