I finally resurrected N2PR and departed Lake Conway in Orlando, Florida. Flying to get ahead of Hurricane Gustuv, I headed for Atlanta, GA for a three day stay with my son. Leaving Atlanta I next went to Louisville, KY for the USAF Pararescue Association Reunion. A good time was had visiting old friends. The departure West bound ended 8.2 hours later in Rodgers, AR. Poor visibility precluded a water landing at my sons house on Lake Windsor.

I left Rodgers in marginal weather and proceeded to Ft. Smith, AR. I flew, on to North Little Rock, AR. That was the last of the marginal weather as I stayed grounded by Hurricane Ikes aftermath. I put the 5 days grounded to good use. I visited an USAF buddies widow there. We became totally obsessed with each other. We'll will be tieing the knot in the near future. I'm already looking for a lakefront house to keep my Searey.

Leaving North Little Rock I got about sixty miles down the road when I recognized the fact I had lost electrical power. I hit the Nearest Airport button on my Garmin 496, turned right and landed 6.2 miles away at the Camden, AR airport. The FBO gave me the best service I've ever had. After a telecon with Kerry Richter, it was determined that the Regulator Rectifier was bad. There weren't any available locally so I called Lockwood Aviation to late for next day, so had a rest day. The new rectifier came in the next morning, installed and airborne for New Braunfels, TX and San Antonio, TX by12 noon. I made it into Stinson Field in time to get to the USAF Air Rescue Association Reunion on the 19th.

On the morning of the 20th, I took off and flew 30 miles north of San Antonio to Kestral Air Park for a Quietbirdman Wing Ding. I won the prize for the furthest guest. Then I flew to New Braunfels, TX where I left the Searey and went Southwest Airlines back to Little Rock, AR. I had it bad.

After 8 days I returned to Texas and hopped into the Searey and headed for Houston, TX, refueled and went to see the hurricane damages at Galveston, TX. Some areas were completely devastated. Pilings where homes had been, fishing boats ashore, etc.

Continuing East the flight path to Lake Charles took me over some very desolate country. I spent the night in Lafitte, LA. The next night I spent in Pensecola,FL visiting my Granddaughter who is attending West Florida University. With a couple of fuel stops, I again touched down on South Lake Conway.

I was gone 35 days, flew 53.7 hours averaging about 4 gallons an hour on the fuel. All this with only one maintenance problem. And picked up a bride. I call this one fine trip.

Swede - you are the MAN!! I wish I could muster up that kind of adventurous spirit (the trip, not the future bride). Congratulations on both adventures. You are now my roll model as I hope to have your kind of guts in 19 years when I'm your age!!
Burro Swede
The house next door to me is for sale. Its located on the north shore of Lake Agnes, the
lake that the Sun-N-fun splash-in was held this year (near Kermit Weeks Fantasy of
Flight). It would be great to have a SeaRey buddy next door. If your interested give me a
call and I'll hook you up.
Burt Olson

I thought I answered this but must have forgotten to save it. I presently live on South Lake Conway with a ramp out of the water to park in my back yard. What I will be looking for is a Lake or Airstrip or a small farm with room for an airstrip in the Little Rock, Arkansas area. Will also check out the Little Rock QB Hangar.

Have you talked to Bill Canino, Swede? He is an aviation guru, SeaRey dealer, former F-16 driver and all around great guy. He keeps his SeaRey at the North Little Rock airport (ORK).
