I wondered what the world would look like from a camera attached to the left landing gear leg, just beside the brake. Now I know. The video is on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V66yr9_Cfxs (This version is slightly clearer than the one I originally posted in File Cabinet.)

Matt Tucciarone - Nov 4, 2009 Edit | Delete | Viewers | Reply to this item
Interesting, so now we know how fish hear the Searey under water.

    Cool.

Don, I got a little nauseous with the tilt.
My video software lets me rotate the picture as needed. I wonder how yours would look corrected?

Don Maxwell - Nov 04,2009 Viewers | Reply
Tony, all of the video software I have will rotate only in 90º increments. Does yours do smaller angles? I'd need about 50º or 60º for the gear leg. That's why I didn't try it earlier--just didn't want to put up with the change in angles when the gear moves.

    Done,

Mine does arbitrary degrees.
Contact me back channel if you are interested.

    Think you hit a fish @ 1:24

Don Maxwell - Nov 04,2009 Viewers | Reply
I think that was a floating stick. There's a wood-sounding clunk. Hit some grass underwater at 1:50.

Look closely, it jumps out of the water just before it gets filleted.

Eric, we must be looking at different sticks. Here's the one I see: Attachments:

This has to be the shortest video ever posted.

Eric Batterman - Nov 05,2009 Viewers | Reply
Back up a second or 2 from that clip - you'll see the fishstick jump...

Dave Lima - Nov 05,2009 Viewers | Reply
    I saw it.

Kenneth Leonard - Nov 05,2009 Viewers | Reply
I saw it too. It was a bass, now it's a flounder.

Don Maxwell - Nov 05,2009 Viewers | Reply
Oh, yeah! It just popped right up. At the time I was sort of vaguely aware that something was there, but it didn't seem threatening, and I was concentrating on the feel of transitioning from essentially glassy water to the slight riffles, coming just after I had eased back on the stick because of the smooth-water friction. Attachments:

By the way, can everybody here view mp4 (a.k.a. mpg-4) videos now? ('StickyFish' is mp4.)

MP4 is the new standard (for at least a few minutes) and usually has better fidelity than wmv and is much smaller than mov. Of course, there are several other new formats that are just as standard, including 3g2 (many cell phones) and flv (Flash video, which you can capture with DownloadHelper).
