Hi All:

It required more than two years of intensive effort, but yesterday, the A-24 received its 51% 'quick-build kit' approval here in Canada. I am delighted this task has finally been accomplished.

From day one, my goal was to ensure that the A-24's transition to 'kit plane' did not result in the loss of ANY of its remarkable attributes. I also hoped to ensure a relatively painless 'build' over a reasonably short period of time, for those who acquire an A-24. With the approval now in hand, I believe we accomplished all of the above-noted goals.

It was not an easy process, primarily, I believe, because while we did not attempt to change the rules in any way, we certainly went to great lengths to make maximum use of those rules. The result of this effort is an aircraft kit that is 'very complete' to say the least.

If any of you want to see the A-24 under construction, just call in advance and drop in. I think you will be impressed. And yes, the hangar is actually heated. (g)

This coming summer, I hope to catch up with many of you as I now get a chance to enjoy the benefits of all the hard work. See you as soon as the ice moves out!

Best,
Larry Woods

Great stuff, this is one of those really interesting aircraft and it is great to see someone expanding its appeal. When I first saw the A-24 it caught my eye in a similar way to the SeaRey, obviously it is a little heavy to make a practical LSA category aircraft but it is a great option for those on a full ticket that still want a smaller plane, especially as you can get a third person in there as well, good luck with your venture Larry.

Hi all and Merry Christmas! Also, thanks for the positive comments.... they are appreciated.

Hi Dan. I have every intention of flying the bird down to Florida next fall. Can't guarantee this but it sure looms large as a goal.... especially with the cold winds piling up huge waves on Lake Ontario, that freeze on contact with the dock. (g)

Hi Ian: You are right, it would require a debilitating diet to get the 995 # current empty weight of the A-24 down to LSA limits.... and it would reduce its robustness rather dramatically as well. The only good place to fit it in was in the 'quick-build kit'category. Incidentally, it really does fly rather well with three aboard, so long as the pilot pays attention to the gross limits (1656#) and the CG requirements.

Best,
Larry

Congrats Larry.....all that frustration with TC has finally paid off. Sure hope you make it here more often now that ' Imagrante 2 ' is a reality.

Larry, your persistance and hard work has given you (and other kit builders) a great Christmas present. Congratulations!

    Hi Dave and John:

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

Later this year, we will get together for a lunch or 'what-have-you'. At that time, I will fill you in on just what a labyrinth I had to work through. It boggles the mind.

Best,
Larry
