For those aviators who like the sound of big round motors in a Sea Fury or a Rolls Royce V-12 Merlin highly over boosted, the Reno Air Races are 15-19 September...or an iPhone application will let you keep up with the events from the comfort of your Searey cockpit. Attachments:

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday to see if the 22 year old Hinton can take the win again!

    Hi John:

I hope you will forgive my biased point of view. You might also want to keep an eye on two of my close friends who will be at Reno competing in the Sport Class. Both are running Questair Ventures.

Tony Crawford's Venture is 'stock'. In fact, Tony flies it out to Reno from his home in Spruce Creek, Florida, races it, and then flies it back home. Tony should be lapping at 300 mph. Tony is 71 years young!

Mike Dacey's Venture is hopped up. Mike runs the same IO550 G as the rest of us do, but his utilizes dual turbochargers, dual intercoolers, electronic ignition and gulps plenty of ADI. Mike finished behind the NXT last year, in spite of some lap speeds that were just above 400 mph. This year, his Venture should be slightly faster.

Incidentally, the top Sport class racers are now exceeding the speeds of the slower Unlimiteds.

Best,
Larry

Tony qualified 5th in 'Chick's Delight' at 299.805 mph. First qualifier was 362.481 mph in a Glasair III. Mike Dacey was DNQ IN 'Bad Intentions'.

Larry, do you know if there will be a live feed streaming for this show?

    Hi John:

Thanks for the update.

I spoke to some of our Venture gang who are out there to lead the cheering for Tony and Mike. They stated that Tony was very pleased with his initial qualifying lap speeds.

I spent some serious time on the phone with Tony late last week as he experienced a mild gear retract difficulty while enroute to Reno (it turned out to be a faulty micro switch).

Mike should qualify in the near term.

I do not know about the streaming video. I will ask around.

Best,
larry

he f=gear down

Mike should qualify in the near term.

    Reno Update;

Live streaming video is supposed to be available. I have not yet been able to bring it up.

Mike Dacey qualified in his Questair Venture at an average speed of 360 mph. What a remarkable achievement. Last I looked, that was the top speed posted in the sport classes so far.

Best,
Larry
