I'm redoing my instrument panel and want to install a used radio, I looked on other sites etc and the only alternative for a not too expensive radio is a ICOM 210 for +- 850$ but if I can find one cheaper that does the same why not hein... Does any of you has or know someone ?

Hug
Bruno

Hi Bruno:

Have a look at the MGL com radio. It is the BEST, all-round radio I have ever tested. (When it first came out, I tested it against several much more expensive contemporary com radios, after rounding up fellow ham radio pals to assist in the test procedures). It proved to be 'equal to or better than' in every category. In particular, it has the best cockpit ambient noise rejection I have ever experienced, which is of particular concern for our type of aircraft. An added bonus is that it has an excellent, built-in, vox-operated intercom.

It is also very light, includes a built-in modulation meter and has proven to be very robust. Best of all, it is priced around $1,000. I have a photo of my new A-24 panel over on the Serious seaplane site where you can see what it looks like.

It mounts in a 3 1/4 inch hole and is very easy to wire. It also 'communicates' with the MGL EFIS products, which allows one to change frequencies, etc., right on the EFIS screen (I know this isn't a real 'necessity', but I have grown to LOVE this feature)

I will be also be installing a pair of them in my new Venture (which, like my new A-24 'deserves the best'. (g)

Give me a call if I can supply further details.

Best,
Larry

Bruno
Brant Aero in Brantford Ont. has a lot of previously enjoyed avionics that should go for a reasonable $. I deal with them quite often and they will help.
However, if they suggest Microaire M760, just like the one I just borrowed, then I would be worried. However, all the King radios in the Warrior are good and reliable.

The MGL radio is still shown on their website and not released..?
Lee

Real simple, e-bay or Barnstormers.

Lee, the XCOM looks like a Microair--both fit into a 2.25 inch instrument hole--but it's a much better radio, with a good intercom. The Becker 2.25 inch radio is good, too.

Dave I went their on E-Bay and specially Barnstormers and no deals....
Lee, I use to have a Microair 760 before and was not satisfied with it specially the integraded intercom and got very small digets and I sold it to Brant Aero. and from what I heard XCOM is better.

I know the Garmin would be the best choice but $ talks...

Larry I'll go and check MGL thanks, so with that radio I could sell my NAT intercom and I'll be satisfied with the integrated intercom ?????

Hi Bruno:

I agree with Don.... the Xcom is a good radio. I have one that is almost new and will sell it for half price. I installed it (new) in a friend's aircraft just before the MGL radio became available. Later, he decided he just HAD to have the MGL radio so I ended up with the XCOM in my inventory.

Best,
Larry
