Growing up, I hated history class. Now that I've reached the ripe age of 22, I'm starting to <br />appreciate it more...especially Florida history. I came across this website the other day and <br />thought I would share it with ya'll. I've only seen the FL portion, so if the other ones states are <br />no good, sorry! It looks like there used to be an airport right by Dan Nicken's present-day Taj <br />MaHangar.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.airfields-freeman.com/index.htm">http://www.airfields-freeman.com/index.htm</a>

You are right, Greg! Howey in the Hills had its own field. Wayne Richter has a story about landing there and having a landing gear collapse. The field is unfortunately now paved over in someone's hope to have a shopping center.

Good post Greg. Paul Freeman has a great website, though I find it depressing. Especially when I count the airports I used to fly into to..

I especially appreciate his site because it shows the ghost airport where I currently live on the approach end of runway 26: <a href="http://www.airfields-freeman.com/VA/Hopewell_VA_73Sep8_se.jpg">http://www.airfields-freeman.com/VA/Hopewell_VA_73Sep8_se.jp<br>g</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.airfields-freeman.com/VA/Airfields_VA_Richmond_S.html#hopewell">http://www.airfields-freeman.com/VA/Airfields_VA_Richmond_S.<br>html#hopewell</a>

That is cool Don. The pictures are great to see what it was like. Wish he also had the old Chester airport where Pizza Hut is accross from Heritage Chevy.

If you have info about it, Scott, send him email. He'll probably be delighted to add it to the page.

This company has a large amount of books about old airports and aviation. <a href="http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/index.html">http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/index.html</a> You'll be surprised what you might find there, and their books are well written with lots of photos. <br />

Wow, looked up a lot of the old airfields I use to land at and others I've heard about from the 'older' pilots. This is very painful. Dayumit, AOPA, we don't need more jet runways, just a few half-mile stips of grass within walking distance.

yesterday while looking for Gator field I found a grass strip with what looks like an airplane <br />junk yard. fusees and plane parts every where. anybody know this place?

Troy, the airport that you landed at was called Klingers a long time ago. I know it has changed hands and not to sure what they are calling now. But if you were looking for Gator around there you were way South. The easist was to find gator is look were Hwy 19/Hwy 27 and the Turnpike intersect and look about a mile south and you will find Gator. Another way is fly NorthWest from Tiki bar and it is about 5 miles from there. Stop by any time.

Troy<br />It's now called Osborne Airport. The salvage place on the southeast corner of the airport is Quality Aircraft Salvage. I used to live in the house that's about halfway up the runway on the east side.

My first takeoff in my SeaRey 'DaPlane' was from Klinger Field in the late summer of 2000. Ollie had just completed the annual and some other work for the previous owner; Bob Spillman.
