Randy Babbitt, FAA Admin, popped for DUI and placed on LOA. Mr. Babbit, live by the sword, .....

The FAA's draconion link of auto dui's to loss of certification absolutely limits my intake to only a single when away from home and faced with driving. Hired cars and taxis do benefit when only one just won't do.

Ah, for the old days...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6kc4wDHQrw&feature=related

Yeah, I confess to chuckling a bit. Randy put himself on leave, is what NPR said this morning.

Update: Babbitt resigned yesterday (the 6th). What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

I knew Randy while I was on the ALPA Board and he the president.
A smart 'political' administrator.
Sad to see such a stupid incident curtail one's career..

    Right, John.

What if the next FAA administrator is an active commercial pilot who develops a disqualifying medical condition, flunks his or her medical exam, but continues to drive safely? Will that require a resignation, too?

Guess it depends on the politics at the time.
Randy wasn't a active pilot while president of ALPA. In fact, I remember his ailine was defunct. I'd be surprised if any FAA administrator is an 'active' commercial pilot...

I love that video. I know a guy who bragged of showing his federal law enforcement badge to get out of a drunk driving stop. He got the badge because he carries a pistol in the airline cockpit. He is no longer one of my officers. But he still flies heavies full of passengers.
