My wife and I are visiting Florida from about 6th March 2012 for four or five days and are wondering about the best places to go. Arrive Miami Int and will rent a car, so are looking to travel. Want to go to PA at Tavares, Jack Brown's SPB etc.
Would welcome ideas from all you Florida people as to BEST places to visit/stay AND those to Avoid. Is Key Largo recommended?
All ideas welcome. Thanks.
Of course interested in meeting SeaReyers as we journey.

    Jim, some thoughts:

Florida is 1-1/2 hours wide and a zillion long.

West Coast: Naples. Sanibel Island. Captiva Island. Sarasota and Islands

St. Petersburg Beach, Clearwater.

Add 4-5 days

Have fun.
I agree. With only 5 days and arriving and, I presume leaving, from Miami the area you can cover is limited. The Keys are great and so is the Sarasota area. Of course, there are many beautiful beach areas. Blue Springs, just north of Orlando, has a wintering spot for about 100 manatee. This all assumes you want to drive 75% of the time, sleep 20% of the time, and do everything else in the remaining 5%.

    Haven't done Florida before?

Absolutely go to Kennedy Space Centre. It is a must, even Mrs CVJ was interested and has been twice! (Check itinery and times etc online) AT LEAST half a day, more if you can afford it to browse and graze. Stand next to an Apollo, unbelievable.

If you are seriously into aircraft, then Fantasy of flight is very good. Not huge but interesting. Check times and take the backstage tour as well.

If you think you are too grown up to enjoy the Fairy Kingdom at Disney World go at least to Animal Kingdom. Wear something you don't mind getting wet and just enjoy. Be a kid again.

Personally I like Epcot too Tons on interesting stuff (and amazingly educational) as well as a couple of rides that are interesting for 50 year old children. Go back for a meal and the fireworks later. (That time of year you should be good for a ringside dinner at the English pub.) Use the monorail to get around, fascinating.

A bit hokey, but we enjoyed it. Visit a Gator adventure. Then go somewhere they do gator on the menu,

If the weather is fine visit Mt Dora, just across the lake from Tavares, just for touristing and food. (Can't remember what the occasion was but we loved the place.)

We loved the keys but unless you have the time to spare (and you won't with only four days,) leave them for next time. Same for Naples, Clearwater etc. We adore it but you don't want to spend all your time in the car for such a short visit.

While in Kissimmee visit the markets, tacky but fun. If you haven't done it before visit the Jousting place (name forgotten) in Kissimmee. Book and do it on a busy night. (Much more fun when it is full and revved up!)

When you have five or six weeks there let us know and I will extend the list!

Jim, for the first time since the 1970s the public is being allowed inside the VAB during the KSC tours, and you can see one of the shuttles in storage.

http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=27234.30
