I'd like to know how you're supposed to avoid hitting one of these things, and who's at fault if you do. And it won't be like a bird strike. These will do serious damage.

Military drones mostly operate in MOAs and Restricted areas or with FAA permits under radar control. A bigger problem for us will be police departments and private operators. Drones are much, much cheaper than Jet Rangers! Current FAA rules are 25 lb. max weight, 400' AGL max altitude, in sight of operator and not in vicinity of airports. While police operators will likely follow the rules, realtors, hunters, surveyors, etc. may not be so observant.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.     My main concern is that the FAA starts closing off more of the airspace, especially the low space we like <br />to play in. It was one of the reasons why to Air Force insisted on pilots as UAV operators and not the <br />technicians that the Army was advocating. The Army was arguing blocking out no fly zones for its UAV <br />ops because their operators did not have air sense.<br /><br />Separately, larger scale drones are not cheaper than a single engine SLA. there was an OK police SLA <br />surveillance vendor next to SeaRey display at Sebring. He walked me through the number and he was <br />100% cheaper than a basic UAV.

The drone driver job would be USAF first (for larger drones), then several other agencies after you have experience. As to who's fault when they hit you - it would be your fault. Why, because dead men tell no tales and besides, this government doesn't admit mistakes. Jimmy Carter said this week that our government has crossed the line on the constitutional limits of power over it's citizens - in the same breath he mentioned drones - one of the rare times I agree with him.

Be careful, Troy: being a drone operator or engineer can be down right dangerous.<br />      Attachments:

Thats what you get when you try to show off with a fly-by and are a bad pilot.
