Rocking on the cool lake porch, listening to the misting, slow rain fall through the leaves to the bay
Occasional 'Gwuop' under the oak tree as the ripe acorns, jealous of the free spirited rain, release themselves to briefly fly
Sometimes the short flights are all they need to understand why a man is willing to throw his soul into the wind and water

An example of words being worth a thousand pictures! :-)

I especially like that first line, 'Rocking on the cool lake porch, listening to the misting slow rain fall through the leaves,' the sounds reinforcing each other in 'listening' and 'misting' without overwhelming in a heavy rhyme --it's a slant rhyme--and all the details that let us see and see and feel, but without being didactic.

I gave rides along the lake to an even dozen family members from teenagers to 80. We've been on that
lake for 100 years and everyone commented on how it changes their perspective of the lake and
surrounding country. Looking down from 200' to see the colors of rocks 20 feet under water blew them
away. (as did landing on lakes on mountaintops)
