Has anyone done anything to lower the landing, stall speed of a two-man/weight Searey into the mid 30mph range - woke
up thinking about that and some pretty marsh bayous I hope to check out one day when I get my bird

Beware that what you can land in, you might not be able to take off
from. That is common theme in the seaplane and bush pilot books I've
been reading recently

At light weight, she dances off the water. At gross, takeoff run can easily be 3 times as long. 7 seconds vs 21 (or more with poor technique) And that is with VG and LSX wing and every other trick in the book. Look at SeareySTOL on youtube. (one word)

I would point interested pilots to Dale DeRemer's 'Seaplane Operations' book which has an excellent chapter on takeoffs. the chapter has a number of tables outlining the impact of density altitude and weight on aircraft performance. Attachments:

That is a real STOL takeoff! Wonder if that's the 115 hp rotax turbo

Ben - that is 100 hp. Weight is far more important than power.
There is also this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M__MrjhLgTo&feature=plcp
jump to 1:15 in the video. Yes, the breeze helps, but it's all about weight. 1 second to get on the step.
