I’m planning to fly to KCOI near Cape Canaveral and it is hard to figure out if there are good seaplane water landing sites around there. The SPA’s water landing site guide is useless to me since they don’t have it in a simple map form. You can search X miles from where you are but cannot search X miles from someplace you are not yet there. Crazy!
Has anybody flown around that area?

Doesn't answer your question Harold, but if your in the CCAFTS area and using ATC, you might request a low approach to the Shuttle Runway. Did it twice and it's a hoot. Have a camera ready.

Frank, what is CCAFTS? I can’t find it on the sectional nor using a Google search. Which airport has the shuttle runway?

Sorry Hal, Cape Canaveral Air Force Test Station. ATC used tol recognize "Shuttle Landing Runway" but it's been awhile for me. Let me know how it works for you.

Hopefully someday they'll be calling it the Dream Chaser Landing Facility. (she's been delayed again, sigh. Space is hard.)

Most likely Cape Canaveral Space Force Test Station now.... so so not what I imagine growing up. Sounds more like an Anime science-fiction space opera with Battlestar Galactica-styled uniforms (the new BS, not the Lorne Greene ones)

Jeff - it gets worse…they people in uniforms for Space Force are known as Guardians. As in guardians of the universe..
My head hurts just saying it. (Retired USAF)

he isn't...sadly...(retired USAF also) The only thing that would make the nightmare better would be for Barbara Eden-esque genies to actually be part of the program.

It was created after the Russians conducted an illegal ASAT activity in orbit. The Air Force is involved… I’m retired USAF too…

So Mark, I see in your post that the GARDIANS (ugh, it hurts to even type it) now run Vandenberg but not Canaveral?

Holy crap. You mean that space force stuff is for real? I saw it mentioned in some news aggregator and thought it was a joke.

Yup, it is real Don. All the highway signs in our area were changed from AFB to SFB - For instance, Patrick AFB to Patrick SFB...

Ha. Well, there have been a lot of military base name changes lately. For example, the army base nearest us has changed from Fort Lee to Fort Gregg-Adams.
That's Robert E. "Bobby" Lee, whom many southerners still call a hero and many northerners think of as a traitor.
And, as NPR reported it on 28 April, Gregg and Adams are "the late Lieutenant Colonel Charity Adams, the first Black officer in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, and Lieutenant General Arthur Gregg, the Army's first Black three-star general. At a ceremony yesterday, Gregg, who's 94, said he hopes the base's new name will instill pride in every soldier entering our mighty gates."

They should give it to the Coast Guardians--and now, with that thought, I hope that's what they had in mind, despite the history of that lawndart emblem. But no, the Coast Guard deserves better.

So Harold, despite your thread having been Hijacked, did you ever get to do a low approach to the Shuttle Landing runway?

"So Harold, despite your thread having been Hijacked, did you ever get to do a low approach to the Shuttle Landing runway?"
My thread sure was hijacked!
I didn't know the Space Force personnel were called Guardians, however. OMG.
There was a Netflix TV show called Space Force with Steve Carell and John Malkovich, that was a send up of the new SFB. I watched a couple episodes but it was too over the top for me to find the humor.
As to Frank's question, no I didn't do a low approach to Shuttle Landing, tried to stay away from anywhere I might find a fighter jet by my side (can they fly as slow as a Searey?).
I landed at Merritt Island (KCOI) which was a nice spot, except $50 landing fee overnight. I didn't get any confirmation of water landing spots from this thread, and flying around I couldn't find anything that had a beach or nice spot to park, so Charlie X-Ray stayed dry. Still interested for future trips if someone knows otherwise.
