Hi all, Cheryl and myself are planning to go Oshkosh this year for the first time, very excited.
So far our plan is to fly Air Canada direct to Vancouver from Brisbane Australia then direct to
Chicago only 22 hours of flying! We then hope to hire an RV and drive up to Oshkosh. Spend five or
six days at the show.

Not sure of our plans after the show finishes so we are open to suggestions and any
recommendations for the first time Oshkosh adventurers.

Looking forward to meeting some fellow Searey friends.

If your RV plans include heading east and possibly camping at John Dunlop's GBG.....you are only a short drive to our place.
We have a great spot for you to hook up.

Dave would love to visit John and yourself, thanks to Google earth I can see exactly where you live, unfortunately I don't think we are
going to have time for a long road trip. Maybe next time, thanks for the offer.

We hope to spend a couple of days in Chicago to get over jetlag, we have been told it is a very interesting place. Our plans at this
stage after Oshkosh is to fly to Edmonton to catch up with some friends, and then down to San Francisco also to see a friend, than to
break up the trip on the way home Fiji sounded good.

Still in the planning stage and may change, open to any suggestions.

We have rented an RV in Chicago, and driven to OSH, four or five times. Always had fun, camped in the main campground.
Try to get there early, the campgrounds fill up quickly. Make sure you visit the Seaplane Base, a short bus ride. There is
plenty to see and do. Enjoy!

Thanks Philip, what do you mean by get there early? Early the day before the program starts or early on the first day? Would you
recommend any hire company in or around Chicago?

Seaplane Base first on our list.

The earlier the better, as Don Maxwell wrote. a lot of folks rent space a month before the event. Not really necessary, however a day
or two earlier, if possible. Check with the EAA, they have a list of companies that will deliver and set up a trailer for you.
As far as Chicago, its been at least 10 years since I rented, so I cannot give you any current RV rental spots.
However through the internet you should be able to shop a few, and find what fits your needs.
Either way, Enjoy! It is definitely a "bucket list" Event!

David, if you're an EAA member, be sure to bring along your membership card, for a good discount. I've never gone to OSH in an RV, but recall that parking is first-come, first-served--meaning that the best spots will probably be taken long before you arrive. I don't think you can reserve an RV site ahead of time, but you could rent one for a few days before you arrive, for the standard daily fee. Maybe letting them know you're from Australia would help.

Oshkosh is big. The official maps don't indicate the scale well--so remember that the longest runway, 18/36, is 8002 feet long. 9/27 is 6179. That should suggest how big it is.

Also, you might keep in mind that the Seaplane Base has tent camping in a pleasant grove of trees. (No electricity in the campground, but there is at the base, itself.) Hot showers in the campground.

There's a good sized parking lot behind the showers where it's usually possible to park a RV overnight. (This is distinct from the regular parking lot for the SPB.)

The SPB is tranquil--a lovely antidote to the much busier main show. They're about 5 miles apart, with a shuttle bus running between them for a couple of bucks for the round trip. I've camped there several times, with my Searey tied to a buoy in the SPB lagoon. The last time, I camped there four nights, and only went to the main show for one long day.

If it should turn out that you have more time than you expect, the Georgian Bay Gaggle would be great fun for you. And after stopping with Dave and Lynn Edward, it would be an easy drive to Niagra Falls and then down the east coast, stopping in Virginia--of course!

Thanks Don great information. We have already joined as EAA member, no-brainier I guess. Looking at hiring a reasonably large RV
one with a bathroom, Cheryl is not a great camper and this is what she calls camping. I guess our idea is to say in the thick of things
to get a feel for the show, I do like your idea about camping at the SPB site maybe next year.

The idea of the RV gives Cheryl somewhere to retreat to should I get involved in something boring, and you never know I might need
an and an Nanna nap in the afternoons, before the nighttime parties.

Received an email from Michael Smith today who is also planning on attending. Forgot to ask if she is planning on flying himself over.
