Carol and I have decided to try two splash-ins this year: April 16 and September 24.

Both are Saturdays with (fresh water) high tide near noon and--we trust--excellent weather. Rain dates are the 17th and 25th, respectively.

We hope you can come to both! Or at least one of them. (We asked those who were at the last one and those who were weathered or scheduled out, and it looks like these are the best dates for the most people.)

Here's a fuller invitation, with more info and photos: https://amphibflyer.wordpress.com/2016/03/18/spring

= Don and Carol Maxwell

P.S. Also, we'll be home and hoping for seaplane company on July 16 and August 13.

Well, what the heck, we're home and hoping for seaplane company most days! And there are two high tides every day, Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun. So any time you're looking for a place to splash, please consider Jordan Point (Tar Bay) on the James River in southeastern Virginia.

The forecast for this Saturday, the 16th, looks pretty good (especially considering the lousy weather we've been having lately). So let's go for it!

Thanks for keeping us updated, Don. Sadly, my daughter's birthday party is that day and that trumps flying. Have fun.

Hi Don. Thank you for adding more dates for people to visit. I
definitely want to make it up that way soon. My schedule on
the ambulance is not consistent enough to plan on short notice
but
hopefully I can get up that way to see everyone. I'm shooting
for September but hopefully before that if you have another fly
in. Hope you and the wife are doing well.

    Rats! We're CANCELLING Saturday's splash-in.

Sorry!

It’s going to be a bit windier tomorrow than today (and windier still on Sunday), and we have whitecaps right now (11:15 AM Friday).

Landing will be possible on Saturday, but isn’t likely to be a lot of fun for Searey- and Cub-size seaplanes, and I don’t want to encourage anyone to take chances.

So we're hoping for perfect conditions for the fall splash-in on Saturday, September 24.

Also, please remember these dates in the summer when the tide will be high around noon:

OPEN HOUSE
July 16
August 13

And every other day of the year. It's always possible to get in here. But if the tide is exceptionally low, you might want to tie up to the buoy or anchor, and we'll pick you up with the Large Marge Party Barge and Self-Propelled Seaplane Tender. Just phone or text first to be sure we'll be home: 804-543-7110.

Crap. I really screwed up. This is the most beautiful seaplane day ever. Please come if you still can.

The weather couldn't have been better for a splash-in--sunny and warm, with just enough breeze to keep the water from being glassy. Three Seareys (besides mine), a Legend SuperCub, a Savage Cub, and several cars came, despite the cancellation. Promptly at 5 PM the wind picked up, exactly as this morning's forecast had predicted. (But VERY different from yesterday's forecast!)

Here's a drone shot from Kevin Manning of two Seareys and an osprey.

Mike coming ashore. The blue tarp reinforces the sand somewhat, but mainly it's an aiming spot.

Good show Don and Carol, it's not for the faint of hart putting on one of these events.

Late in the day, when I finally got around to taking a few photos: Buck's Searey (left), me, Buck, Julie, Kevin (drone pilot), Carol, Neal, Jim (Savage Cub).

Neal, our intrepid neighbor and pilot, allowed us to use his beach and lawn. He was still draining from recent surgery.
