Steve McCaughey and Phil Lockwood show off plans for the new SPA headquarters facility to be built
at Winter Haven airport during this mornings annual meeting.
The project to build a new SPA headquarters on donated property on the east side of Winter Haven airport
has already been approved by the city and is just waiting FAA approval to start the four year project.
Steve reports there will be access to the SPA three acre seaplane ramp, also donated on the north end of
nearby Lake Hartridge. There will be pilot activated barriers that will stop traffic on 21st.NW to allow
aircraft to taxi across the road from the Lake Hartridge seaplane ramp to the Winter Haven airport
facility. Steve reports funding for the new project will come from donations not SPA members dues.

It was a neat little event, glad I got to attend and meet some other seaplane pilots. I think it is cool that the lease for the property is
only going to be $1/year and that SPA doesn't have to pay for any of the taxiway improvements (evidently the city is picking up the
tab). I'd love to fly down for the 2017 Sun-N-Fun splash in and have it be at GIF.

My wife Lou Ann takes care of the Riley dog grooming. Darell Riley of Frasier Construction is the contractor that will oversee the
construction of SPA new headquarters. Darell called me last night and said construction should start as soon all the permits
from Southwest Florida Water Management or swiftmod are pulled and another six or so months to complete depending on
amount of money that can be raised in this short time. Darell and Phil Lockwood go way back and Darell has done all of the
Lockwood contraction going back to when Lockwood was in Haines City Florida.
I should mention that Steve just got back from Australia where he claims SPA is going over big down there.
Also Steve and Phil Lockwood are working hard on putting together SPA new website. If you haven't logged in in awhile you
should check it out. If you haven't paid your membership dues in awhile you'll also notice they have gone up to $55 for a
year, so how do you think that new SPA headquarters will get started.
