Description:
I was flying low along the James where it flows south from Richmond to join the Appomattox.
I was at about ten feet off the smooth water, on a long, easy final, when I noticed something in the water ahead. Then I noticed it was swimming. Decided not to land and throttled up just enough to hold ten feet. Then I got close--passed within about 30 feet, between it and the shore--and saw that it was a deer, swimming toward the west bank. It must have swum a good distance, as much as a mile. The camera--aw, shoot, where IS the camera? I pulled up and did a 180 to the left and saw that the deer was nearing the shore.
There wasn't time to get down close to it again, so this is the best I could do.
North is to the right. I had set up to land heading south, just about where the deer is in this photo.

Don,
Could we have a discussion about which hull handles antlers best?
Great shot but the message re checking the runway is a good one!

Frank C, without a doubt the 'See' hull is best for spotting and avoiding antlers (although this deer had none). However, the 'Be' hull is good for maintaining the status quo. And the 'Hey!' hull is effective in calling attention to submarine ops.

On second thought, I guess the 'Eh?' hull is a natural for Canadian waterways.
