Description: After some flying fun, Alex and I delivered Streaker over to Taunton where she's getting the 912Xtra piston kit installed.

Yet today she hardly needed it. In this cold air she leapt off the runway in nothing flat (even with that big block of ice in the bilge).

At Taunton, we hopped in the Lake Buc with friends Robin and Steve Lynch to fly away for lunch

what are you going to do with all that extra horsepower?
now you can give all of us an accurate comparison of before and after.

Curious here: Has anyone tried taking off on the belly from snow? I am guessing that the angle of the hull would more than offset the angle of incidence of the wing and it would not be able to lift off without rotating.

Charlie, I suspected as much from you and that crew at Taunton. Mike, the ace mechanic is also an ace pilot. Everytime you see him at a flyin he's in a different plane. It didn't take me long to see that Mike regards good long check rides as an important part of good customer service... Tell Mike to put as many hours as he wants on Streaker AFTER the piston change. Hey, I've been a test pilot before so I'm glad for somebody else to do it.

All I ask is that if you manage to sucessfully do a hull takeoff in the snow, make sure you take a picture.

That's the spirit Bret keep up the good work. Snow does not stop a Searey pilot. I figure I have the world record coldest flight in a Searey. -27C and all temps were in the green. Including the cockpit. But I don't recommend anyone try to beat it. The aileron blocks started to freeze and contract making roll rate very challenged.
