Bu hao, comrade! Just think of the 12 street sweepers who are are out of work now. Tsk! What would Chairman Mao say to that--eh? And who will keep track of the comings and goings on their streets now? Eh? Beware of innovation, comrade. It can wreak terrible havoc.

Bård, that whole photo makes me nervous--because nothing looks quite as I'd expect. I lived in China for a while in the early 80s, and that's where my vision of the place is stuck. True, the cyclist appears to be wearing a Mao jacket, but 20 years ago, the truck would have been a two-wheel tractor, the brightly-colored signs would have been made of paper, and the street sweeper would have been a man or woman. And the USA wouldn't be on its last generation of aging machinists. (Thank you, WalMart & Co.!)
