Description: The 'Red Tails' are the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII fame. How such a small plane can make such a racket is hard to imagine. But the night take-offs are pretty impressive! You can't always see the plane, but you can see (and feel in your chest) the afterburner.

Gee, Frank, I didn't know you were such a news hound.

When I was in Korea I happened to hear an AFKN news item about a water polo match--saying that an Aussie team had cleaned up on the Poles. A few minutes later, Radio Vladovostok said that the Poles had drowned the Aussies. Later I heard that it was a draw. So in other words, I hope you're also watching the BBC and other news agencies that present a more balanced and less inflamatory view of world events than Fox, and company.

There are lots of differing opinions about the war in Iraq. For example, a few weeks ago another Tuskegee pilot (the father and grandfather of two of my ex-students) said he hoped not too many more Americans would have to die and get maimed there before our government came to its senses. That's a guy whose courage and patriotism cannot be doubted, yet he spoke very bitterly about our involvement in Iraq. Whose opinion is likely to be better balanced--his or that of a guy who traded dope for guns and lied about it under oath?

How soon we forget. Jane was just a symbollic, shameless, snotnosed, spoiled kid. It was MacNamara and Johnson who invented the strategy and tactics of how to run and loose a war.

COL. Frank G, I can`t believe it, with all our disagreements, I LIKE THE WAY YOU`RE TALKING NOW.
REDNECK VETERAN FROM TENN.

Not everyone needs to be 'on board' with stupid wars, Frank, to win the peace. Further, the rant of 'the ends justify the means' is the mantra of tyrants of evil. Fortunately we're still allowed to disagree here and I'm a highly disagreeable fellow. One thing we do agree on is that thanks and appreciation go to all who have stood up in favor of freedom.

Gee, Frank, did you just compare a 'minority' Tuskegee Airman to a starlet posing on a gun? Hmmm...it just don't seem the same to me, but maybe my modicum is on vacation.

Thanks, Don, for including some European nuances to the news from the war in Iraq. While the war on Taliban/Al Quaida in Afghanistan seemed perfectly logical, the war in Iraq did not. No one complains about the deposition of Saddam Hussein, but there were no 'Wepons of Mass Destruction' to be found even though even Colin Powell was induced to presenting photographic phony 'evidence' before the war started. My prediction was that while Bush & Co would have no problems with deposing Saddam, they would not know how to stabilize and get out of Iraq in a way that can insure future peace. So far, I still think it will get worse before it can get better.

I vow to stay out of polictics, but since my back surgery I can't resume work on my SeaRey yet, so here's a thought:

So, there were no WMD's. And, there were no carriers in Pearl on 12/7/41 either. But what might be the worst nightmare of middle eastern terrorist spawning and breeding countries but a pro-western Republic right in the middle of their desert? Worse than missles in Cuba!

Frank G., you might want to read up on history--especially today. Memorial Day in the United States was originally intended to commemorate all those who died in the American Civil War. But for nearly half a century narrow-minded southern partizans (that is, those who supported the expedient idea that states had a right to permit slavery) insisted on a separate day to commemorate only the Confederate dead. Eventually, those with greater perspective prevailed, and now it's a day dedicated to all who have fallen in war. I'd be pleased if the people of all nations would join us in that dedication, because it will be a truly good holiday only if it includes everyone fallen in war, no matter what their political leanings might be.
"Commemorate," by the way, means to remember together. We will never see an end to sending our children to die and kill in war until we can overcome narrow partizanship and include everyone in our international relationships.

the war in iraq is a tough call, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. frank is right its probably better to fight them now, and how many other 911's would have happened by now. these people will never give up and will fight untill the end, and if someone invaded our country we would do the same. i offer the highest respect to any veteran and many thanks for keeping this world on the right track.

    My turn:
(1) Fox News IS the balance --

(2) Fight them now or later ? That's NOT the question --
The question IS: Fight them THERE or fight them HERE.

(3) WMD ? Didn't Saddam gas about 2,000 of his own Kurdish people in the North w/ Sarin ? AND, because we can't find it in 2 Billion square acres of sand, it doesn't exist, and was never there ?

I don't know much about much, Chet, but I do know about Weapons of Mass Destruction since our company was responsible for destroying Non-Stockpile material (that's the stuff that's not in our own vast inventory of crazy chemicals). Our employees were in Iraq after both wars. So, Fact 1: Saddam did have chemical weapons and did use them against his people and the Iranians. Fact 2: it was militarily useless. Fact 3: it was destroyed after the first Gulf War. Fact 4: the people in the military I worked with knew about Fact 2 and Fact 3. It may not be fair and it certainly seems out of balance to me but them's the facts, mate.

And, finally, Fact 5: this thread isn't very splashy or dashy.

Hey Frank G I have stayed right out of the politics until now as
a) I am a Brit visitor to these shores and feel very privileged to enjoy the freedoms and the quality of life that I have here
and b) I am lucky enough to have been too old or too yound to get enmeshed in the various wars our governments have got into but your comments to Bord re recognizing WMD struck me as way too patronizing!
My Dad joined up for WWII in 1939 - when did you guys jump into that little World wide action?????
Also don't forget who propped up the various dictators in Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi , Yemen etc etc when it suited them and please don't give me that better dead than Red stuff . Sorry but I'm with Dan on this one. I too salute the very brave men and women who are doing their duty for all of us - but it doesn't make me have to like the tactics and strategy of Uncle Sam even though I'm rooting for our side. Dubious decisions are still dubious decisions even though its our team who made them!! OK I'll climb back in my box - Steve

Just for once I'll air a political view.

Politics isn't about fair, justice, or right.

Chet is perfectly right. Fight them there or here. Which would you choose? They will eventually realise they've been had, then they'll be back here, but for the time being it's over there. Bush is either lucky or has the right advisers,.

I must say that I wish that the site administrators would remove this thread. Much of what has been said might be just fine in another forum but is certainly out of place on this site, especially with many international members.
