Dave , did you have that problem with the new carb flange? They are suposed to be made of harder material and a pre-set metal strap holder.
Don't know Ed....I had two spare flanges which we installed on John's airplane. Mine were the correct size we discovered. John's broken ones were slightly larger. Maybe John will give more details when he gets some breathing space.

Dave, early this year I had a carburator flange break on me, engine got hard to start (air leaning the mixture through the flange). Called Lokwood in Orlando- they informed me they no longer make the old carb. flange. Instead a new version-harder material, more resistant to brake, holds the carb in place better and the securing strap has a spacer that would not permit over tightening it. Give them a call- I think is a must.

My two spares were put on John's airplane. They were of a harder material and slightly smaller. The engine still shook like hell when John attempted to start.

    Dave:
-see that carburator are synchronized-(throtle cables)
-Carb flange are tight (torque wrench)
-good spark on all cylinders.
-SRAG clutch? Hope not-an expensive repair.Had mine done in 2003. 912S has higher compression. Starter engages flywheel to crankshaft though a sprag clutch. If you got the old SPRAG cluth-this will not be strong enought to overcome the higher compression and give you a piss for starting. If that's the case-let ROTAX people replace it for you. Not worth venturing here by yourself.
-Have you got the stronger starter for 912S?

Ed, this is the second problem with the starting clutch not releasing. I'll get a report over on STS when I hear what Rotech have to say when they get my engine.
Carbs had had new sockets (with spacers) supplied by Lockwood in Orlando this spring. The sockets (strangely) had an inside diameter 3 mm greater than Dave's replacement sockets which were the same diameter as the carb flange.
