You meet the nicest people on the water, eh Don?

Exactly so, Dan! And the nicest airplanes, too. The early Lazairs were covered with mylar--very transparent and light-airy-lovely looking, but vulnerable to U-V damage, so he later switched to Tedlar, which is silvery, but almost indestructable. The result is maybe slightly less beautiful, but much better otherwise. Double-stick tape holds it on.

No tape necessary on Dale Kramer & Co. They're all inherently lovely people and interesting.

Bill Narby insisted on introducing me to the Curtiss museum folks as a barnstormer--embarrassed me at first, but after about the tenth time it began to feel almost natural.

It is great to see that Dale Kramer is still with us. I started Airflow Ultralight Aviation with a pair of single seat lazairs powered with the 5hp Pioneer chainsaw engines. A training stand was available where the airplane would be held with bungee's and it was able to bank, turn and a little movement in pitch. The two place lazairs was developed a few years later so training was real interesting in the meantime. We still have about a half dozen lazairs flying in the area and some of them on floats. As a dealer for the lazair we never got to talk with Dale very often as his wife ran a very tight operation and she would answer all the problems.

Fred, that wife is no longer his wife. I don't know any of the details, but Dale seems to be getting along well enough without her. And Carmen is a lovely woman.

    Don,
The ghost of Glenn Curtiss was very proud to see you and Kramer thoroughly enjoying his invention. This is a style of flying that Curtiss probably enjoyed most.
Did he mention his four engine version, Don? Here is a link to an old video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVkhVUZSb_E

Operates out of half a mud puddle. Very impressive!

Fantastic! No, he never mentioned it--but I'll ask him (if the email address I have for him still works) and will send him the link. He's been using electric motors lately. He had a plan to fly to OSH via KFFA and the west coast, but ran out of time and just trucked it to OSH. Thanks, Dan!

Dale says that the builder/pilot was somebody else and that the mud puddle flight was in Florida at or near Sun-n-Fun.
