Thanks Dave, wish I could say I built it. If PA still offered the kit, that's what I would have ordered...but they only offered it for a limited time around 1996. Only 7 were built. This is SN 5 of 7. I bought it about 2 years ago, while part-way into my Searey kit (up to turtledeck install and covering). Sold the kit after I bought this. The experience gained from building the Searey has been priceless in maintaining the Stingray, which is very similar. The wings are the same as a Searey.<br /><br />Since it is single place, the hull is narrower than the Searey, so it cannot really be compared to the A, B, or C, so I call it an 'X' hull. It has a fairly deep V, so it handles waves pretty well. It handles very well on the water. I have a blast in it and love it. It's my baby.

Yea I know, I still have the old fashion type that you stick film in. I just can't justify the money for a digital yet; I wouldn't use it enough. I'll get one someday.<br /><br />I plan to have my bird up to the Greenville fly-in this year, wx permitting. I hope to bring it up the ramp Friday, camp out there overnight, then fly it up to the airport the next morning before the contests start. I'm not proficient enough with it yet to enter it in any contest.

Mark,<br />I had a single place Aventura and it also was great on the water. The narrow beam really helps in the hydrodynamic department.<br />

See the position of the pitch trim? I always need full nose-down trim when landing, which I think is good for water, since it keeps the stab out of the water as much as possible. Not sure what kind of trim is needed on the Seareys....of course, I imagine it depends on the number of people on board.<br /><br />The trim motor setup is different too. Same motor, but it's mounted vertically down inside the boom tube, and is connected directly to the hor. stab. No linkage parts or springs like on the Searey. However I am not looking forward to replacing it; I think I'll have to remove both tail fairings.<br /><br />Electric flaps (no place to put manual flap handle).<br /><br />Both throttle and manual gear handle are on the left, which may feel odd to the seasoned Searey pilot. While it's on jacks, you can cycle the gear up and down while standing next to it, which is very handy. You can't do that with a manual gear Searey (or at least I couldn't when building mine).<br /><br />This one was built without the canopy. It was an option when the kit was available, and the builder left it off since he was too tall for it. I've grown used to it without, and probably won't bother to put it on. I don't plan on flying in very cold wx anyway.<br /><br />Regular Searey wings but the struts are longer (due to narrower hull).<br /><br />Can't tell you much about the Stearman, except I heard he bought it for about $30,000 from the owner's widow after he died. It was dirty and only needed a good cleaning. Don't know what Stearmans are going for, but I think he got a heck of a bargain.<br />

Cool Mark, thanks for sharing the picture. Does it cruise a little faster than a Searey with it being so much narrower?
