Description: When we got back to Midland that day, Bob Toerner thought he might be able to break my 'New White Line' record. He landed just ahead of Carol and me, and we saw him execute a very fancy J maneuver while apparently turning off the runway ever so thoughtfully so that we could land unimpeded.

Well, not quite. He suffered the Dreaded Gear Collapse--and here I should point out that his gear was roundly chastized--BAD gear!--is now correctly adjusted and should not do that again, ever.

Here, Kendall and Bob appear delighted over the new white lines they applied to the runway. But fear not, Intrepid SeaReyeurs! The New White Line record (mine!) is safe. Theirs came up at least 200 feet short. Tsk!

    Hey Don,

I see the new C hull gives you three lines! Nice feature, the old A hulls only give you one. Seriously though, the best defense against this is to make a physical check (make your passenger lean forward) of both over-center locks a normal part of your check list. I now physically check mine are locked with gear up and with gear down and have not had a problem since. My physical checks have caught many instances of one lock or the other just barley out of position which would have caused a colapse.
Dan's 'Nicken's Safety Lock' removes the requirement to physically check the over centre locks. If you don't believe me just ask Dan..
(Only on manual gear though.)
