Description:
Another fuzzy fone foto--Dave Edward in his SeaRey.
Shortly after this shot, Dave Edward went home. Dave King let me fly the Storch and probably ground his teeth as I tried to turn it on a wingtip. (The Storch performed better than I did.)
The sun had set by the time we landed, and it was time to high-tail it back to Turtle Cove in the SeaRey. Dave Edward called it a night landing in glassy water, but in truth, it was a twilight landing in slightly rippled water--a piece of cake, actually.
But then we had to find the shore, and that's when the trip got interesting. Dave vectored us on the handheld: 'Pass to the right of the floating windsock.' WHAT floating windsock?! 'Pass to the left of the floating dock and the boat.' DOCK...?!!! 'Try to hit the rubber ramp squarely on.' Huh?!!!
First I got the left main stuck in the mud and the ground crew pushed us off. Then I hit the ramp, but the left rudder cable had caught on the tailwheel extension cable bolt, and we promptly turned left, into the trees. Eventually that was rectified (a little pun there--no apology) and we motored up onto the lawn near the hangar. Phew.
