Description: SeaRey N610L, a quite new B-hull model with a Rotax 914, is for sale in DeLand, FL. It is serial number 1MK227 and was built by Mr. John D Lewis of DeLand with significant assistance from Progressive Aerodyne. It has a Special Airworthiness Certificate for Amateur-built Aircraft dated 2/22/01. The Hobbs meter has only 91 hrs. and the plane was last flown in 2003.

Mr. Lewis donated the plane to the Commemorative Air Force for the purpose of having it resold to raise money for the CAF’s museum and vintage aircraft reconstruction efforts. Because the airplane will not be flown by the CAF, the plane will be sold in an “ as is” condition. However, The CAF will pay for the plane to be inspected and given a fresh annual by Lockwood in Sebring and will assist with obtaining a ferry permit to get it to Sebring.

There is a weight and balance form dated 2/22/01 indicating the empty weight of the aircraft to be 973 lbs. with a gross weight of 1370 lbs. The solo and dual occupant CG calculations indicate CG positions within factory limits.

The SeaRey kit was purchased on 6/16/2000 and included the following components:

SeaRey Airframe Kit with a fiberglass hull
Rotax 914 Turbo Engine
Adjustable Rudder Pedal Kit
Basic Instrumentation Package w/ vertical card compass
Hydraulic Toe Brakes Kit, Dual
Hydraulic Gear Retraction Kit
Large 6” Tires and Wheeles (Upgrade)
Oil Cooler Kit, R914
Ivo Magnum 2- blade Propeller with 6 prop shaft nuts
Shoulder Harness, Set of 2
Cabin Heater

Invoices from Aircraft Spruce supplied by Progressive Aerodyne indicate that during the construction, the following components were added to the aircraft:

Instrument panel lights, switches and circuit breakers
MAC Stick Grip Model G5
Hobbs hour meter
RCA11A-16B Directional Gyro14v lit
RCA22-11 Allen Artificial Horizon Gyro 14v
Unheated pitot tube strut type
Cessna split master switch
Master Relay #111-226
PS Engineering 4 channel Intercom
Transponder Antenna
Comm Antenna
Ameri-King Encoder
King KT76A Transponder
King KY-97A Transceiver

Other components installed include:

Parallel dual electric fuel pumps alongside the fuel tank
Mechanical flaps
A vacuum system with indicator
Whelan type Nav and Strobe wingtip lights
Landing lights
Carpeted Interior
Finished cargo decks
Water Rudder
18 gallon fuel tank
Metal spring gear retraction replacing bungee cords
A tail wheel dolly is included with the aircraft

The aircraft appears to have been painted with a polyurethane type paint and is in very good condition. There are two locations where touchup paint is required, one on the rear deck where access was gained to install the landing gear retract spring to replace the bungee cords and a small area on the right wing tip. The stainless steel tape on the LE of the prop blades needs to be replaced.

Seventeen pictures of the plane can be found at http://www.caffl.org/searey

The asking price is $60,000. Contact Peter Jacobs at 386-322-0070 for further information.

Gees Bret, power MUST be additive, you just put that new 912S in a few months ago.

No, I love my new 912S. Its awesome. But I'll always want for the turbo... mostly because its something I cannot have.

As for radar... you don't need it anymore. A friend of mine has the new Garman with xm radio. Its the one that gives the weather overlay on the gps moving map. So basically you have data from ALL the weather radar reporting stations combined into one piped right into the cockpit. What a great innovation for GA. He says its the dog's balls. I look forward to this technology coming down in price.

Could someone please tell me what the average useful load is for a searey, as this one seems totally insuficient. Why me and the missus couln't fly in this aircraft if it carried no fuel and it would be just the fuel problem if you know what I mean.

Case, some have flown their Seareys at close to 1600 pounds. If memory serves me, I believe there are some who set their Gross Wt at 1500. After all, it is experimental

I think the rant term is associated with the frequency with which an individual complains coupled with the infrequency with which he/she tries to do anything about it...
