Description:
This reminded me of a recent discussion of pitot tubes on STS. It's the X-35B, which is capable of vertical landing and (I think) takeoff. It has two 'weather vanes'!

The Marine and perhaps the Navy variant of this plane with have Vertical T.O.<br />The USAF will not - the saving in weight and complexity will add longer legs and shorter maintenance. Plus save money, but who cares about that? I believe the F-35 has a 'cold' fan moving the air instead of the actual compressor doing the lifting. This is for two reasons - FOD reduction and less cooked groundcrew and grass fires.
