It's a good place to stop, Dan. The FBO has several courtesy cars, there's an EAA chapter clubhouse right on the ramp, and everyone seems friendly.

I had a flat tailwheel there once--the tube was unpatchable. Maintenance didn't have one, but gave me directions to the nearest tire store and got me fixed up with a courtesy car. The tire store didn't have the right size tube, but had one the same diameter, only fatter. I thought it would work, but the manager wouldn't sell it to me--said no, it wasn't the right size, I should drive some 40 miles to a bigger tire store. I said I'd like to buy it anyway, in case the other store didn't have the right size, either. So he GAVE it to me.

'Oh,' I said, 'Thank you, but I'd like to pay for it.'

He drew himself up straight and shook his head. 'This is GEOR-gia !' That explained it all.

That was spring, 2004. The fat tube is still in my tailwheel.

Yup, it is still Georgia, Don. Friendly folks, a hotel next to the airport, and good food around the corner. It don't get much better. It's good to know fat tubes fly!
