What a coincidence, Judy! I got a wild call last night about a mysterious object in the sky.

“Did you see the sky tonight?”

“Uh, no.”

“Well, you should have! It was pretty amazing. Have you listened to the news?”

“No.”

“Well you need to check on the Internet and see if anything has happened.”

“Why?”

“Just a little while ago I was walking out to the car. Up in the sky I saw a huge red streak, going from west to east. It was the largest thing I’ve ever seen!”

“Yeah, well, there was probably a launch from the Cape.”

“Have you heard about one?”

“No.”

“Well, this didn’t look like a launch. The Cape is closer than this appeared. It was also brighter than any Shuttle launch. It was absolutely amazing. The huge, flat red streak appeared to hang in the sky, then suddenly it turned. It remained in the sky like a twinkling red star, then it disappeared.”

“That is strange. Were you drinking?”

“NO! And I wasn’t the only one that saw it. I’ve been listening on the news radio to see if there have been other reports.”

“And?”

“There is nothing on the radio. You’d think there would be for something like this!”

“Yeah. Okay. Goodnight.”

Now this morning you have explained it all, Judy. Thanks. (Though I am a little disappointed that the aliens aren’t here….yet.)
The trees look good, Judy. Here are some palm trees that are visible from orbit: http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/NewImages/images.p
hp3?img_id=17435
