Description: Inspired by Steve's post and the resulting replies, I hounded and hounded (subtlely but persistently) my dad until he had no excuse... we were gonna fly. He would never say he didn't want to or he was afraid but I knew he wasn't comfortable with the idea.

As soon as we got off the ground I saw that smile... the SeaRey smile. Then we landed over on the river next to the campground where we spent many summers during my childhood. He hadn't seen it in probably 20 years. I shut down the engine and we floated with the current, pointing out things we remembered and telling camping stories. It was a great afternoon of reminiscing with my dad.

He's just on the heels of losing his campaign for mayor. He came in second out of 11 beating the incumbent but losing to a former mayor who spent 4 times more money. I'm really proud of the campaign he ran and the support he cultivated... but I'm selfishly glad he's not going to be living a 24/7 public service life for the next 4 years. I never saw him during the campaign and since election day we've had a lunch, 2 dinners, and one awesome flight.

Bret, You, my friend, are living my dream. Thank you for sharing. Over the last month or so, I've told every one of my friends the same thing: 'Today, sometime, kiss your Dad, tell him how much he means to you and then take a picture to remember that one moment in time.' Bret, you went one farther, you made sure you got to take your Dad flying, he got to see your world from the inside looking out. And you took a picture to remember this one brief moment in time. Good on you, mate. I'm so proud.

It's so easy to make other people happy. You've already made me and your Dad very happy. And anyone else who reads this and replies will probably feel the same. And they'll tell two friends, and so on and so on. And the world will be a better place.
Bret, you look more relaxed and happy here than I've ever seen you before.

I have seen the two of you with the same grins before. It was in the barn during construction. May all of your dreams have this outcome brother.

Yes, it was a happy day. The stress of moving and new careers makes getaways like this even more theraputic. Dad and I did have a great time working on the plane together. I think he never could imagine it actually flying someday much less him being a passenger... I did though I'm glad that day finally came... some 6 years after your visit to the barn Jon. Man, this SeaRey group has been a rock for us builders for a long time now. What a great group we have here. I've made lots of life-long friends here.
