Good show, Ken! Is that a solar panel on your bow hatch?

Kenneth Leonard - Nov 14,2006   Viewers  | Reply
Eric - in a way - it's a clear lexan hatch - bad idea because it's already got small cracks but I thought it would be neat to be able to inspect the bow area without having to open the hatch. I think the black you are just seeing a reflection based on it's curve.

Congrats Ken on these first and all flights. Our weather here in Tn will be cruddy untill spring. The waranty on the 06 engine that I have now is for 6 months or 100 hrs. If I mount and fire the engine now, there is no way I can get enough hours on it this winter to really know the engine will be OK. If I wait untill about april I will be able to put on lots of hours for the 6 month warranty. Plane is ready for test flights and it really pains me to not be flying it. I will most likely fly the Champ some this winter though.

Charlie, Get that engine mounted and fired up. You are going to have nice days this winter and you want to be ready to really enjoy them. Besides we are all anxiously waiting to hear about YOUR first flight. You are not going to make us wait until spring are you??

Jeff, I am going to mount the engine today. UNLESS, my mind changes ( and it sometimes does HEHEHE) I will most likely wait till spring. After the discouraging 13 weeks of frustration about the DUD I got all of my pride and joy of the plane vanished. Some says it will come back BUT so far has not. I want to be able to put lots of hours on it in the six months of warranty. I have had several Rotax engines and flown behind many different Rotax with out any hesitation at all. AT THE PRESENT TIME my confidence level with the Rotax is very low.

Charlie, you had a bad experience but I suggest you put that behind you. The 912S is a great engine. Just look at all the airplanes that use that engine. Even Cessna put the 912S in their LSA. You got a new engine. Your engine nightmare is behind you. Fire that thing up and FLY!!

Charlie: I was the same way about my plane, after I screwed it up on my first water landing after waiting almost a year to see it finished. It took me from September to March to make all the repairs, then I experienced problems with the engine on my first take off (off the water no less). At that point I had pretty much lost my enthusiasm for the Searey. But, I pressed throught that and, after about 5 hours and 25 landings, I was hooked again. Push through your lack of confidence. You will be surprised how fast and strong it will come back.

I`m thinking I need to go to Fla for vacation and some Searey flying with someone since I have never flown in a Searey. Have 32 hours in Buc B2B and really enjoyed those hours. Even put one of those notorious WHITE marks down the runway when I blew a tire on landing, broke landing gear and slid 525 feet down runway, tore a hole 6 inches by 24 inches in hull. As soon as repaired got right back on that horse and flew. LOVING IT!!!!!!

Ken, how many hours you got in since first flight?

Kenneth Leonard - Nov 16,2006   Viewers  | Reply
ZERO. Gotta pay the bills and it's dark by the time work is over. However, I appear to have a cold coming on if the weather is good tomorrow. Reserve duty this weekend - drat it! I should have time to do the carb sync tonight before it gets dark.
