Description: Heading up the jungle river towards the sunken yacht required some tricky maneuvering. There were logs to circumnavigate and seas of lily pads. An occasional alligator grunted then submerged to eye level and observed my passing. A pair of turtles was too engaged in their sunbathing to be interrupted.

    I figured I could make fairings that attach to the leading edge of both wings that would shield my surfboards... Hey, mebbe I could figure out how to make a longboard into a bi-wing!<br /><br />I'm not kidding... <br /><br />Well, of course I'm kidding myself, but that don't count! <br /><br />Seriously, it would be great to be able to carry my other water toys in the plane. I bet there's a way to make an airworthy kayak or surfboard rack. Or semi-airworthy. Heck, up in Alaska they strap moose to floats!

    Jim -- you're not THAT far out !! A lifelong surfer-dude friend of mine was looking at my plane last week trying to figure out a way to attach a longboard !! ( ....he's got about 20 of 'em.... ) I'm gonna' let him design it, but I am gonna' have the final say on whether it goes on or not.....

    Chet,<br /><br />I don't blame you for reserving the final say... I would definitely do a bunch of high speed taxi testing before even thinking of lifting off and then I think I'd want to do some low altitude runs out on the lake before trying any altitude.<br /><br />I'm thinking that a piece of tubing, like a strut bolted to a hull cross-member and sticking through the hatch and another piece extended from the root tube, both with a 'T' at the top would make a dandy surfboard/kayak carrier. Though an inflatable kayak is probably the way to go. A buddy of mine calls all inflatable boats 'MayPops'.<br /><br />My longboard has a single, removable fin, but I don't even think it would have to be removed in a situation as described above. <br /><br />Another option would be to use 2 similar sized surfboards to replace the sponsons, but you'd have to have something to replace them at anchor, or beach the plane. Maybe strapping them to the struts would work... The biwing idea is a definite possibility, too. <br /><br />I dunno. Since I'm an old fart, I don't have to worry about it 'til the ocean temps get back up above 78* F!<br /><br />Once when I was 14, I forgot to put the car rack straps across the surfboard - longboards were all we had back then. The racks had suction cups and the board was held on by them until my Mom reached about 40 mph. The board flew up, turned right side up and glided to a beautiful landing in the grass by the side of the highway. It didn't get a scratch! Thank God, the thing represented 275 hours of lawn mowing!

    I've been toying w/ the idea of a one man foldable canoe that will fit in the turtle deck. On the Eastern Coast of NC the guys fish the canals in small flat back canoes. <br /><br />I don't like the idea of having to inflate / deflate or a float where your legs are in the water. (FL has stuff that could take a piece out of anything hang down)

    There are some fairly substantial inflatable kayaks out there. Our Stearns lifejacket friends make a nice one. I doubt anything would hang down... &lt;g&gt;<br /><br />Those small canoes are called pirogues and seem to be common in all the southen swamps. <br />

    They do make some small folding boats that just might fit in the back, Chet, you on a surf board, please post a picture of that !!!

    A Go-Ped will fit in there, too, Dave.<P><img src="inline/20092-Go_Ped_N123XM_0378_k_h_h.jpg" alt="Go-Ped+N123XM-0378-k-h-h"><P>The handlebars fold down and the whole thing fits into the baggage compartment.     That's a nice little engine Don, here's my new 454 stroker, 375hp. Might not get off the water, but just think how fast we could water taxi. It's going in my boat ( don't want to lose any races)      Attachments:
