Description: Not much to do with SeaRey, but Don Maxwell asked me to post some pictures of Baja. This is what we found left of our place after hurricane John smacked the area with 125 mph winds in Sept. Both palapas are gone and the roofs on our 3 concrete buildings are somewhere in the dessert.Only lost one big palm.We have rented an apt. nearby and will contemplate re-building. We own another lot 15 kms south, so may build there...a little further back from the Sea of Cortez.

¡Hombre! ¡Que lastima, Dave! But how beautiful the location is! Thanks for the pics--even if they are of destruction.

I presume your furnishings went away, too? Blown away, or looted?

Ouch! Maybe you better just head east to Florida this year, Dave.

Lynn & I are just back from the beach..... not a cloud in the sky..95* and 75% humidity with a 10 mph wind off the water. Two people went by in 4 hours. This is our kind of place Dan. The Mexicans are really nice and even though there was a fair amount of looting in the area, 90% of our stuff was intact. The insurance companies stopped coverage of palapas after the hurricane of three years ago. The good lord giveth...and the good lord taketh away.

When you say they stopped covering palapas, are you talking about the palm thatched umbrellas we call 'peanut trees' here in Florida?

Dave Edward - Nov 18,2006 Viewers | Reply
Well Jim...the peanuts must be bigger here. We had two 30'x 30' palapas...one covering a trailer and outdoor kitchen/living area and another one which covered our tent trailer which was our guest accomodation. When we left in April, the tent trailer...truck and two ATVs were stored under it.Luckily, they got moved to an indoor storage area for the hurricane season. The truck was stored in a lockup with a heavy duty cover...which is now in tatters...the truck is minimally damaged.
