Description: Roy’s next door neighbor was associated with the Cole Brother’s Circus. Her world was turned upside down in a moment. She was asleep in her bedroom when the walls were suddenly stripped away. She is still in the hospital.

This fall, we had several very strong wind storms. One of them caused a large tree to come crashing down on my roof, almost over my bed where I was asleep. It punctured a hole through the ceiling, scattering debris next to me. I can attest that being woken from sleep by something like that is pretty horrific. I can only imagine what it was like for her, where she actually experienced injury from this as well. She may not sleep soundly for a long time.

Three years ago a hurricane that unexpectedly changed course and picked up energy started blowing over the big, 90-foot oaks in our neighborhood. No one was hurt, but it was quite an experience hearing the roots popping and watching the trees fall, sort of in slow motion. We could do nothing but watch. Some missed houses and some didn't, including one that flattened part of ours. It was fascinating--almost mesmerizing. It's not an experience you forget.

The good news is that the old circus lady was back this past weekend with her arm in a sling to see her house as it was completely demolished for reconstruction.
