Description:
Roy and I weren’t the only ones looking at the tornado damage. Two baby Bucs were out seeing the sights too. I heard them on the radio as they attempted a landing back at Gator Field.
“What are you doing! Go around! Go around!”
One pilot was fresh into his Buc. He had attempted a landing with a light crosswind and freaked out. The airplane started porpoising down the runway. He saved it by flying off.
The fresh pilot decided to fly to a runway directly into the almost non-existent wind. He retreated to X61 for a landing into the sinking sun.
As he approached to landing, his buddy was giving him rapid fire advice. “Turn, turn, turn! More power! You’re too high! Slip! No, not that way!”
Despite all the high flying advice, the guy landed hard and his gear collapsed. He ended up looking 180 degrees away from his intended perspective. Good thing his friend landed after him to give him more advice.?!
