Looks like a dream about to come true to me. Congratulations. Prepare for progress to slow as the interior work begins. Kinda like building a plane!!

The guest quarters look great, Bret. Make sure you have room in the hangar for your SeaRey when my guest plane is in residence!

Ed Irizarry - Mar 02,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Congrats. Bret-Nice home. Got enought space for a landing strip?

Bret Smith - Mar 02,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Plenty of room in the hanger (I'm mean there will be) for a few planes plus the neighbor's have room too. We look forward to be able to have company. Trailer life is getting old especially now that we have this house to pine for.<br /><br />Ed, the airfiled came first. Weakley Field is a fly-in community. We've got a nice 3,500 ft grass strip that 5 homes share.

Well Bret.- if you find yourself flying in/aorund Columbia SC- stop by-Owens Field-803-546-8004- Other Sea Reys in the area.

Bret - I truly envy you. I would give everything I have, except my wife &amp; daughter to be soon (Babie girl) and my lil sea-3po for a place on a runway, lake or anything to fly out of...<br />Ed - I've been flying from Augusta to Charleston almost every week now and still looking for some seareys out there - would really enjoy to meet some of you guys... I just moved to Charleston - a heck of a fun place to fly a searey.. beaches, lakes, rivers... and tall bridges!!

Charlie Huskey - Mar 10,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Marcus, Have you flown over to Lake Moultrie yet. Inland from Charleston about 25 miles. A beautiful lake, I`ll be there in May fishing.

Kenneth Leonard - Mar 10,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Marcus, Congratulations on your baby to be! I travel to Charleston AFB, SC every month for weekend reserve duty. Is this the Charleston you're talking about? If so, maybe we could get together. I hope to fly my 'rey up before the weekend in a couple of months. I've been looking forward to exploring that area with all the rivers.

Bret, I can visualize a windsock on the peak of the roof. Wouldn't that top it off nicely?

Mighty cool looking place, Bret! Maybe it's almost time for all SeaReys to converge on Tennessee. It is still the center of the known universe, isn't it?<br /><br />(By the way, I heard that your truck needs a brake job.)

Bret Smith - Mar 02,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Don you are way too connected...

Charlie Huskey - Mar 03,2007   Viewers  | Reply
FANTASTIC BRET, what kind of siding are you going to use. Can`t wait for first cross country for N8084H, coming your way, get fire department and rescue squad alerted.

Don Maxwell - Mar 03,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Charlie (Pickett) phoned me while driving it past your school. I tried to talk him into barging in to find you and complain about the brakes--but all he could say was, 'When I die I want to come back as Bret Smith!'

We'll be ready Charlie! So you're not selling Liberator? GREAT!<br /><br />We're using one of the James Hardie products. Probably the Hardie Shingle.

Charlie Huskey - Mar 03,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Bret, no sale as of now, have been flying the Champ some lately. Really have a hard time getting in the front seat but am learning to suffer for some enjoyment. Want to put the 40 hours on Liberator and hopefully will know by then what I`ll do. Searey is really easier to get into than the Champ, but harder to get out of. <br /> Don, wish Pickett had called, would have been glad to help in any way possible. This Cumberland Plateau is sort of out of way when traveling highway N &amp; South. Anyone traveling through Knoxville and need a place to put up for the night, I have an appartment not far off I-40 &amp; 75. Also have friends with 2 grass strips along side of I-75 if flying and need fuel, just south of Knoxville.

Hey Charlie , my daughter and son-in law are stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky and<br />live in Clarkesville. I am flying my Glasair up to visit them in April, are you near <br />Outlaw field?<br />Phil Mendelson

Bret Smith - Mar 08,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Hey Phil, Bret here. I'm the one here in the Fort Cambell area. Yes, we are very near Outlaw field. About 15 miles southeast. Consider stopping by Weakley Field. Its on the sectional.

Charlie Huskey - Mar 08,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Phil, I am about 130 miles east of Bret. Jamestown airport (2A1) is just 8 miles from me. Be glad to have you in for a visit or overnight anytime if situation requires it. My grass strip may be a little short for you (1145 ft).

Hey Charlie Noticed you are near some locations that I have volunteered for charity clinics- Byrdstown and Livingston. Actually stayed on some houseboats on Dale hollow lake. Do you do your playing there

Charlie Huskey - Mar 09,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Kevin, I`ve been on Dale Hollow lots, great fishing there. It is a mountain lake, really not good for amphib. Just a little east and south of there you get on the Plateau which is level to rolling terrain, where I live. If you get back this way be shure to give a shout. BY the way Kevin, several clinics here have been busted by TBI on drug trafficing. TBI shuting the clinics down and pulling doctors license. A REAL MESS.

Kevin D'Angelo - Mar 09,2007   Viewers  | Reply
I will give you a call when I am down. Looks like April 14-15 I will be down working a clinic at Pleasant Hill Elementary school in Crossville. Let me know your coordinates and I will take a pass of your field on the way home. I don't have to worry about the TBI as we mostly extract teeth during the clinics I help out with

Charlie Huskey - Mar 09,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Kevin, what will you be flying? Look forward to meeting you. Maybe we can have lunch and a visit.

Kevin D'Angelo - Mar 09,2007   Viewers  | Reply
I'll be flying a Cessna 210 (wish it was the Searey) I usually fly a couple of Dental students down with me on Friday night and work it Saturday and Sunday and fly back Sunday Afternoon. When it gets closer I will give you a call. Local volunteers usually drive us to a home or hotel so I won't have wheels but it would be great to get together that Saturday for a quick lunch or Drink/dinner in the evening. Keep in touch

Bret, do you guys put basements in your houses? House looks great, I think we're starting another house as soon as the snow leaves as well.

Bret Smith - Mar 07,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Yes, but this one doesn't have one. The lot was flat so a cellar was the only option. No walkout basement. For some reason, contractors do not like to put cellars with a bulkhead door in this red clay soil. All the houses in Rhode Island had them.

Dennis Scearce - Mar 08,2007   Viewers  | Reply
It's too hard to keep the water out. I know from experience.

Mark Alan MacKinnon - Mar 08,2007   Viewers  | Reply
I didn't know there was a difference between a basement and cellar. Up here I think they're one and the same, just different names.<br /><br />The definition of a basement (cellar) is, an indoor swimming pool you try to keep water OUT of.

Hey Bret I just noticed you are kinda in the area of a meeting that I will be at in May. Have you been up to the Lake Barkley State Resort? It will probably be too far for me to fly the Searey to for a short meeting so I will probably be flying down in the 210

Charles Pickett - Mar 08,2007   Viewers  | Reply
Bret<br /><br />Thanks for the hospitality you have a real nice place<br />I will be back

Bret Smith - Mar 08,2007   Viewers  | Reply
I enjoyed hanging out Charlie. Glad you came. You missed the sweet weather by about a day. Its wonderful here now. We'll leave the light on for you.<br /><br />I agree Mark. Thats just what they call them in RI. Down here they are basements. Soda/Coke, bubbler/water fountain... I can't keep up with it all.<br /><br />Kevin, I know Lake Barkley well. I haven't flown over there yet or anywhere else much yet either because the move and change to the teacher life has kept me on other priorities. But this summer, I will be free... for the first time in a long, long time! I love teaching and coaching and being back home and all that... but I really can't wait for my first summer vacation!<br /><br />Info on Weakley Field (6TN1) can be found at <a href="http://www.weakleyfield.com/">www.weakleyfield.com</a>

I can see my room from here, above the garage!<br />Looks very nice, where's the hanger?

Bret Smith - Apr 01,2007   Viewers  | Reply
thats right, guest 'wing' over the garage. Come on down (in June I mean <br /><br />The hanger will nestle back into the woods on the right facing the house. The footer guy has been given to ok to start but he's waiting for it to dry out real good (in other words, he hasn't returned my calls in the last few weeks - that used to drive me crazy. Now I'm and old pro at the contractor games...)

Bret Smith - May 27,2007   Viewers  | Reply
In the "home" stretch I hope... ready for flooring, trim and paint. Still no hanger... I'm supposed to have the footing poured a week from tommorrow and the metal for the Quonsett type building arrives about then too. Lots to do this summer. Good thing I'm on SUMMER VACATION!!!!!!!<img src="inline/20089-DSCN06620001.jpg" alt="DSCN06620001"><!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.
